In accordance with Red Cross policies and procedures, reporting directly to Manager, Health Education Solutions, the Advisor- First Aid Program Development is responsible for ensuring effective planning, development, implementation, and coordination of the Professional Responder program. Working closely with Program Development volunteers and staff, this role follows and interprets the clinical evidence that guides our programs, monitors for industry trends, and supports the continued evolution of first aid education at the Canadian Red Cross. The incumbent demonstrates solid planning, organizational, and facilitation skills and expertise in implementing strategies and supporting programs to ensure success and growth. This role will ensure the program curriculum is in alignment with the latest scientific evidence and industry best practices.

In this role you will:

  • Manage, support and report on the Professional Responder program.
  • Provide effective coordination, leadership, and expertise to develop and maintain Professional Responder learning interventions in collaboration with colleagues (volunteers and staff) and in alignment with our educational philosophy.
  • Ensure that first aid education learning interventions are effective, current, accessible, inclusive, and compliant with federal/provincial regulations/legislation and professional association criteria.
  • Collaborate with the Program Development team and the Canadian Council for First Aid Education to ensure that learning interventions meet identified learner audiences and markets\xe2\x80\x99 needs, and fill identified programming gaps.
  • Follow updates and scientific changes from notable clinical and education bodies.
  • Monitor industry trends and identify target areas for new program growth and evolution.
  • Ensure that first aid education learning interventions comply with program standards (including initial development and maintenance of existing interventions).
  • Support the First Aid Program, including its programs, products, tools, communications, and processes.
  • Provide clinical guidance to the Program Development team.
  • Participate in developing Program Standards, operating procedures, program policies, communications, delivery resources, and customer service tools to promote improved market saturation.
  • Contribute to discussions on the strategic and long-term direction of First Aid Education.
  • Provide expertise and consultation to ensure the design and implementation of first aid education learning interventions and programs are culturally safe.
  • Identify emerging opportunities to grow and evolve the Canadian Red Cross\xe2\x80\x99s First Aid Education portfolio in various learning contexts \xe2\x80\x93 particularly rural, remote, or isolated.
  • Contribute to primary and secondary research projects as identified.
  • Contribute to the program evaluation process and strategic, long-term direction for First Aid Education.
  • Support the evaluation of products intended for retail by CRC partners/vendors.
  • Support the Partnerships & Sustainability team with any aspects of Quality Assurance related to Professional Responder programming/audiences.
What we are looking for:
  • Experience as a licensed EMR attendant or higher, pre-hospital experience preferred (Example: Emergency Medical Technician, Primary Care Paramedic, Advanced Care Paramedic, etc.).
  • 3 to 6 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Instructor/Instructor Trainer certification in Emergency Medical Responder.
  • Knowledge of Emergency Services structure.
  • Knowledge of the scope of practice and licensing processes for Emergency Medical Responder and First Responder levels throughout Canada.
  • Knowledge of the mandates of the Paramedic Association of Canada (PAC) and the Canadian Organization of Paramedic Regulators (COPR).
  • Knowledge of Prevention & Safety programs and standards.
  • Awareness of public health themes that Prevention & Safety learning interventions could support.
  • Ability to create custom learning interventions to meet the needs of unique communities/learner profiles.
  • 2-3 years of volunteer management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multiple priorities in a changing environment.
  • Strong communication skills in English are essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborative, team-based environments.
  • Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency using Office Suite.
  • A self-starter and independent - you can work with minimal guidance within assigned responsibilities in sometimes stressful situations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to interact effectively and build on-going relationships with volunteers, staff, and stakeholders.
Working conditions:
  • Most team-based collaborations take place in a virtual format.
  • The ability to travel throughout North America is required.
