Starting Salary: $52,220 \xe2\x80\x93 $59,520, per year based on experience. Salary Range Max $67,900 [2022 Rates] All applicants are encouraged to apply. The Role The Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) Advisor liaises and builds collaborative relationships with Metis Nation Ontario (MNO) Councils, child care providers and other external early learning and child care stakeholders to share MNO program information, cultural knowledge, provide professional development opportunities and develop relationships at a community level. The ELCC Advisor role requires a significant degree of independent decision making and judgement when applying standardized policies and processes. While there may be an administrative component to the role, it is limited to and focused on the supports needed to facilitate relationships and / or the completion of specialized work. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Fully understand the significance and fundamental importance of MNO\xe2\x80\x99s Statement of Prime Purpose (SPP) to all MNO\xe2\x80\x99s work, and to the requirements of the position specifically
  • Act as a liaison on behalf of the MNO and the work of the MNO Education & Training Branch: early Learning and Child Care.
  • Plan and host sharing circles, promote MNO and ELCC program information, act as a liaison for ELCC, present culturally appropriate workshops.
  • Comply with and model MNO\xe2\x80\x99s Standards of Professional Conduct.
  • Manage relationships with key internal and external ELCC stakeholders to proactively and effectively share MNO information regarding Metis children and families, identify and solve issues, concerns and problems on a timely basis.
  • Complete administrative work that is limited to and focused on the supports needed to facilitate relationships and / or the completion of specialized work.
  • Deal with confidential and sensitive issues, with tact and discretion as required, elevating when necessary, and with awareness of the political landscape.
  • Prepare information and training materials for presentations and professional development.
  • Research practices and recommend changes or modifications to existing policies and processes.
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.
The incumbent is responsible for the following duties, as well as other duties as may be assigned by the Manager of ELCC:
  • complete assigned project tasks, monitor project progress and ensure deadlines are met
  • gather project statistics as directed, establish and maintain spreadsheets
  • provide input and oversight to the development of work plans and projects
  • professional and effective outreach and building of relationships with education stakeholders/partners
  • develop and deliver presentations and professional development at conferences, workshops and in communities to promote awareness of the M\xc3\xa9tis culture and education
  • plan and coordinate meetings and/or sharing circles with local MNO community councils, child care agencies and other ELCC stakeholders
  • help, assist and co-ordinate larger ELCC specific events, e.g. annual professional development conference
  • review early learning and child care initiatives and respond as needed to information requirements
  • prepare briefing notes, communications, presentations, and products to support managers
  • provide community MNO councils with ELCC specific guidance and support (i.e. Council Camp Funding and annual advisory meeting)
  • maintain an effective, confidential and accountable filing system
  • some travel throughout the province at times requiring stays at locations other than place of residence, and extended hours of work may be required
Qualifications
  • Strong desire to act in the service of the M\xc3\xa9tis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
  • Knowledge of Metis Nation of Ontario governance structure, culture, history and way of life.
  • Knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years sector and current issues
  • A post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
  • A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment
  • Advanced communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong interpersonal skills in order to effectively liaise with the ELCC team, MNO leadership, management, government and external child care organizations and agencies.
  • Strong project coordination, including the design and implementation of project work-plans
  • Superior organization skills and time/priority management
  • Highly detail-oriented
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing demands and assess changing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to assess situations and problem-solve independently
  • Demonstrated ability to work alone/independently with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; knowledge of MS SharePoint
  • Must be fully vaccinated (COVID-19) as per MNO vaccination policy and procedure
Previous 2 years or more experience in a similar/comparable role
  • Previous experience in a leadership role
  • Previous experience dealing with confidential information
  • Demonstrated experience in building and managing relationships with a variety of internal / external stakeholders
  • Experience in writing high-quality reports, briefing notes and developing presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly acquire and expand knowledge and to be flexible when advising others in a demanding and dynamic environment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced multi-issue environment, serving a wide range of varied internal and external interests.
  • Ability to deliver presentations on technical information in plain language to large and small groups with easeAll positions at the MNO may require the following:
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain
  • Completion and maintenance of Vulnerable Sector Verification
  • A reliable vehicle (or ability to rent), driver\xe2\x80\x99s licence, $1,000,000 liability insurance, and a clean driving record
  • Flexibility to work extended hours as necessary
  • Ability to occasionally travel within Ontario for limited periods of time
  • Must meet vaccination requirements as set out in the MNO Vaccination Policy & Procedure
Preferred:
  • Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators or accredited association in related field
  • Knowledge of M\xc3\xa9tis-specific policy and research, key challenges, and programs
