At a Glance

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer II to join the Solarfective team in Scarborough, ON. We develop and manufacture the advanced lighting automation and shading systems for residential and commercial markets. This position is the primary interface between New Product Development and Manufacturing for the design of new product processes including equipment and electrical function test fixtures. The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer functions as a liaison and primary contact between the design team and manufacturing partners. The primary functions of this role are as follows:
1.) Develop, document, implement, and maintain manufacturing processes required to successfully manufacture new or existing products.
2.) Utilize and support individual, team, and quality/process/cost improvement efforts.
3.) Advocate for clearly documented product and test fixture designs capable of robust/cost effective/repeatable manufacture and assure manufacturing processes meet requirements for process capability, safety, customer service, and reliability.
4.) Work with the development team to ensure designs are aligned with manufacturing standards and capabilities. Ensure a smooth transition to manufacturing of new products by coordinating builds during product development as well as sustaining activities.

What Will You Do?

1. Provide project leadership and guidance to product design engineering and to our manufacturing engineering and production team members on issues related to manufacturing including product function testing.
2. Plan and design activities related to manufacturing for New Product Development planning including samples runs, Pilot runs and Production runs.
3. Review new product designs for manufacturability and testability (DFM, DFT, DFMA, PFMEA). Design and maintain test procedures to insure valid operation of products once in full scale production.
4. Design, improve, maintain and implement processes (equipment, machines, test fixtures, etc.) to meet operational needs through monitoring, feedback from manufacturing leaders, supervisors, maintenance activities, operators and personal observation.
5. Develop manufacturing process plans which meet all manufacturing requirements for capacity, safety, ergonomics, process capability, quality, and cost. Present process concept proposals and implement approved processes on schedule and within budget. Promote lean manufacturing, participate in, and/or lead process improvement initiatives, identify improvement opportunities for safety, cost, ergonomics, quality, and process capability improvements.
6. Monitor quality of production and assure assigned processes are capable of producing at or above required quality levels. Perform root cause analyses, take corrective action and design/implement engineered solutions when appropriate to maintain effective compliance.
7. Develop and document manufacturing methods. Plan and establish sequence of operations to fabricate and assemble parts or products to promote efficient utilization. Draft and design layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency. Assure all documentation is archived and maintained in accordance with standard practice.
8. Resolve emergent engineering related production barriers. Provide technical assistance to maintenance and operations as necessary to meet the needs of the business. Does what is required
to safely get processes back on line with minimum loss to the business.
9. Performs other similar and related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering with an
understanding of electronics as related to manufacturing fixtures.

Experience: 5-7 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a sustaining, design, test, or manufacturing engineering
capacity. Lean and Six Sigma manufacturing experience preferred.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
Optional: Programming skills with LabView, Python, C#, MATLAB or similar are a plus.

- Ability to read circuit schematics and use test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power analyzers
- Must possess excellent project management skills, including demonstrated ability to develop and manage to a project plan, establish priorities, work to deadlines and control several projects at
various stages of work.
- Experience using Product Lifecycle Management \xe2\x80\x9cPLM\xe2\x80\x9d systems such as Arena.

- Experience using Material Resource Planning \xe2\x80\x9cMRP\xe2\x80\x9d systems such as JD Edwards, ePic or similar.
- Knowledge of DFM, DFMA, DFMEA and PFMEA activities and processes.
- Electrical Safety, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Skills sets.
- Experience working with UL for both new project submittal and follow up services a plus.
- Requires strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and ability to effectively handle multiple priorities. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, organize and accomplish a diversified workload. Is self motivated and enthusiastically executes responsibilities with high energy and without extensive external direction.
- Strong computer skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, e-mail and meeting/project management software. Ability to use internet and web-based resources efficiently and effectively.
- Must be highly collaborative and able to work in a team-based environment. Promote an environment that encourages cohesiveness and fosters trust and open communication with team, peers and all business partners.
- Must possess strong analytical skills and the ability to identify trends and establish proactive corrective actions. Must be able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

- Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Must be an effective listener, able to maintain focus extract necessary information and validate understanding of the information.
