This person plays a vital role in advancing Tsay Keh Dene Nation's vision of lifelong and life-wide
learning. This position supports the personal, academic, and professional growth of community
members through culturally grounded, relevant, and accessible adult learning opportunities. The
incumbent designs and delivers tailor-made programs that reflect local strengths, needs, and
aspirations--connecting education to employment, entrepreneurship, and community well-being.
Working collaboratively with Elders, knowledge holders, and partner organizations, the teacher fosters
an environment of continuous learning and empowerment that honors Sekani values, culture, and
language.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching Duties
Deliver high-quality, age- and stage-appropriate instruction to adult learners in alignment with
curriculum standards and learner goals.
Create a caring, stimulating, and culturally safe classroom environment that encourages
confidence, curiosity, and collaboration.
Provide opportunities for the holistic development of learners--cognitive, emotional, physical,
and social.
Develop lesson plans, learning materials, and classroom resources tailored to learner needs and
local contexts.
Support learners with diverse needs and maintain accurate tracking of attendance, engagement,
and progress.
Collaborate with Elders, staff, and community members to ensure programming aligns with
community priorities and student success pathways.
Liaise with Language and Culture to integrate Sekani culture, traditions, and language into
lessons to promote pride, relevance, and cultural continuity.
Guide and coordinate educational assistants and support staff.
Motivate and engage learners through differentiated, experiential, and land-based instruction.
Program Administration and Coordination
Provide leadership within the Tsay Keh Dene Adult Learning Program, helping to achieve
community learning goals that reflect lifelong and life-wide learning values.
Design and deliver tailor-made programs that respond to community priorities--such as trades
readiness, digital literacy, land-based skills, entrepreneurship, and post-secondary transition.
Collaborate with employment, training, and economic development departments to connect
learning opportunities with sustainable livelihoods.
Build and maintain partnerships with post-secondary institutions, government agencies, and
local businesses to strengthen educational pathways and employment outcomes.
Research, develop, and evaluate innovative programs that meet emerging labour market
demands and community aspirations.
Support proposal writing and secure funding for adult education initiatives; prepare reports for
funders as required.
Oversee administrative and financial procedures in alignment with Tsay Keh Dene policies and
accountability standards.
Maintain accurate and confidential student data and records.
Represent the program positively within and beyond the community, promoting access,
inclusion, and opportunity.
Ensure the learning facility remains welcoming, organized, and conducive to creativity and
collaboration.
Assessment and Evaluation
Develop and apply fair, transparent, and culturally respectful methods for evaluating learner
achievement.
Use varied assessment tools--including portfolios, projects, presentations, and experiential
learning--to capture growth and learning holistically.
Provide timely, constructive feedback that promotes self-reflection, resilience, and motivation.
Maintain accurate academic and attendance records in accordance with Tsay Keh Dene
Education policies and funding agency requirements.
Identify learning gaps and implement personalized strategies or refer learners to appropriate
supports.
Engage learners in self-assessment and goal setting to build autonomy and lifelong learning
habits.
Incorporate cultural learning outcomes into evaluation frameworks, recognizing traditional
knowledge and skills alongside academic performance.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Education or equivalent qualification in adult education; OCT certification or
comparable provincial credentials preferred.
Demonstrated experience teaching or coordinating adult education, literacy, or employment-
focused programs.
Strong understanding of Indigenous adult learning principles, community-based education, and
culturally relevant pedagogy.
Knowledge of Sekani culture, traditions, language, and community history is an asset.
Ability to develop and deliver flexible, creative, and learner-centered curriculum.
Excellent communication, teamwork, planning, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in data management, reporting, and program administration.

The position will primarily be based at
Tsay Keh Dene Community School
, with instruction and
outreach also occurring in community learning spaces and partner institutions. The successful candidate
will demonstrate adaptability, mobility, and creativity in bringing learning to where learners are--
whether in classrooms, workshops, or on the land.
