Job Summary We are looking for a university guidance counsellor with extensive knowledge and understanding of post-secondary institutions and their admissions processes. Our focus is helping students and families navigate the complexities of applying to universities across Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Your insight and expertise will provide families with accurate information about the appropriate post-secondary options available to their children. Working with a team of seasoned education consultants, you will add to KEY\xe2\x80\x99s expert insight from your time spent in the industry. We believe that a strong foundation through education will set students on the right path to success. We need a like-minded individual to join our team. Job Responsibilities
  • Meet with prospective and current clients to explain the university admissions process, from the admissions requirements of respective universities to appropriate high school courses and extracurricular activities selection.
  • Share your expert knowledge of the university admissions process, having gained your insight from your work in a university admissions and/or university academic academic setting.
  • Educate families and students on setting the right expectations when preparing for and applying to university.
  • From as early as Grade 8, guide students in planning their year-by-year activities, high school courses, extracurricular involvement, focus of their academic interests, standardized test requirements, and leadership and character development.
  • When students reach the end of Grade 11/start of Grade 12, assist them with their applications including university selections and completion of all necessary documentation and components of the applications.
  • Guide students on writing effective, compelling personal statements (college admissions essays).
  • Provide expert interview coaching to students, helping them craft their message as to why they are the right fit to each respective university.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with admissions officers, high school university guidance counsellors, independent education consultants, and other industry professionals to be kept abreast of the latest admissions trends and policies.
  • Develop and build relationships with clients and seek opportunities to develop additional contacts through referrals or other networks.
  • Answer client questions and ensure timely follow-up with clients on all matters pertaining to their university planning and application process.
  • Continually keep up-to-date on latest information and trends in both post-secondary admissions and secondary independent school (private school) admissions.
  • Write articles, guides, or opinion pieces on educational topics.
  • Make presentations at informational seminars for clients.
Your Qualifications NOTE: Applicants who have no prior experience working with students, or no university degree, will not be considered.
  • Bachelor\'s degree, preferably from a top-tier US, Canadian, or UK university.
  • Relevant work experience in a university or other post-secondary setting including the admissions office, student recruitment, student academic advising. Or work experience as a high school-based university guidance counsellor.
  • Existing membership in any of the following associations is considered an asset: NACAC, HECA, or IECA.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Provide superior service to KEY\xe2\x80\x99s families on an ongoing basis.
  • Competence to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing: articulate admissions knowledge and other information with consistency and clarity.
  • Cultural sensitivity: promote an inclusive environment exemplified by understanding of various cultural groups.
  • Problem solving: use logic and analytical methods to develop realistic solutions.
  • Professionalism: demonstrate professional standards of conduct when interacting with individuals in a business environment.
  • Time management: balance a multitude of tasks and prioritize duties as needed as well as the ability to work with tight deadlines.
