Your Opportunity:

As Administrative Support IV - Department of Surgery you will be responsible to provide clinical and/or academic support to ensure the efficient & effective operation of one or more physician office(s). This role functions with minimal supervision and direction from the Administrative Services Manager and/or respective Medical Staff. As part of a multi-functional team, you will also interact with AHS employees, university employees, patients, families & referring providers. Acting as the initial point of (phone) contact on behalf of the physician(s)/department you will communicate effectively and compassionately to ensure patient and family centered care. You will be responsible to assess, prioritize and synchronize complex physician schedules which may include operating time, outpatient clinic time, call schedule, educational rounds, research/committee meetings, conferences, and away time. You will liaise with patients & referring providers to schedule and confirm referrals, initial assessments, procedures, follow up appointments, re-bookings and investigative testing as needed. This role may also support research, education and academic activities of the Faculty of Medicine Member(s) which requires you to develop a knowledge of business practices, corporate applications, support, and infrastructure of both AHS and University of Calgary. As a successful candidate, you demonstrate critical thinking, effective time management, flexibility & attention to detail. Required Qualifications:

Some post-secondary education. Additional Required Qualifications:

As an Administrative Support IV, you will require advanced administrative or specialized skills and knowledge to support complex procedures, practices and initiatives within a department or program. Completion of post-secondary education (e.g. course(s) in business administration, medical office assistant), or other related fields. Post-secondary training: Medical Office Assistant/Unit Clerk/Business Administration or related field. Accurate keyboarding skills of min 40 words per minute. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Calendar & Email). Effective communication techniques (correct use of business English, spelling, grammar, proofreading). Self-directed, critical thinker, effective time management, flexibility & attention to detail. Prior to the interview the incumbent may be required to complete & pass a skills assessment to advance to the interview. Preferred Qualifications:

Recent administrative experience within a surgical setting. Sound knowledge & experience in: surgical bookings, referral/waitlist management, scheduling, health record management, WCB/insurance claims, telephone communications & billing codes. Working knowledge of Connect Care, NetCare, CliniBase, SCM, Millennium Scheduler, Accuro/EMR, billing software.
