Job Description

Objective

To assist the Leader with correspondence and scheduling along with other administrative duties.




Responsible to the Director of Tour and Logistics for:





Correspondence + On behalf of the Leader and Caucus preparation of high-quality, accurate, proof-read correspondence to members of the public, stakeholder groups, community groups, and government officials.
+ Working closely with other departments - Communications, Media Relations, Outreach, Research and Legislative Affairs - to ensure correspondence is appropriate and in line with NDP policy and message.
+ Having key correspondence reviewed and approved by relevant departments and/or shadow minister offices, on behalf of the Leader.
+ Assisting with responses to event invitations for the Leader, as required.
+ Electronically track correspondence from the public to the Leader's Office and manage the workflow for responding to senders in a timely manner.
Administration + Organize and manage the Leader's Queen's Park
+ Assist with the organization of a centralized correspondence database that can be used by Caucus staff and Members' offices.
+ Remain informed of NDP policy and the Caucus' position on topics of current interest and concern
Public Relations

+ Contacting constituents and the general public as required by email, written correspondence, telephone, or in person. + Scheduling tour events and meetings with key internal and external stakeholders, as set by the Director
+ Assisting in the scheduling, administration and coordination of outreach and media events.
+ Developing and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders, local community organizations, ethnocultural and racialized community groups on behalf of the Leader.



Qualifications:




Superior office organization skills and attention to detail Fluency in both English and French Knowledge appropriate to the position, of the Ontario NDP Caucus, the Ontario government, and the labour movement Background in administration, political science, communications, or journalism a strong asset Exceptional writing skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work with the public, ability to work under pressure Ability to conduct research, solve problems and pursue new angles and political opportunities in a timely fashion Strong political judgment and discretion Proven experience working with confidential information Excellent computer skills including electronic list management and record-keeping Experience in NDP organizations, ethnocultural organizations or labour organizations would be an asset. Familiarity with equity, anti-racism and anti-oppression policy frameworks
