Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.
Reporting to the Stan Melton Executive Professor and Director of the Real Estate Program, the Administrative and Program Assistant is responsible for assisting the Director with outreach, existing activities, growing the Program and activities related to the student club UARC (University of Alberta Real Estate Club).
The Real Estate Program offers real estate related courses in the Marketing Business Economics and Law Department. There is also a Combined Degree with the School of Urban and Regional Planning and a new Masters in Real Estate Development to be introduced in Fall 2026. A minor and possible major are in the future. The Program is the academic arm of the Cities Institute. The Program has a number of student oriented annual events that have been established since 2011 and serve to connect the School, the Program and students with firms and individuals in the industry to facilitate networking and career placement.
Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain alumni, donor and industry professional contact information.
  • Work with Director and advancement team to further augment list of prospects, partners and collaborator in the Real Estate Program.
  • Work with the Director to develop strong student and industry relations.
  • Assist Director with students, industry and university community communication.
  • Develop a mechanism for determining the enrollment in the Real Estate Program; courses, certificate, stream.
  • Work to manage student and industry expectations where professionals are involved with student group activities.
  • Assist Director with appropriate reporting and information for compensation of students.
  • Partner with employers to create summer internship opportunities; create and deliver events and initiatives.
  • Facilitate the booking and scheduling of student group activities.
  • Work with the UARC (University of Alberta Real Estate Club) for venue selection and budget management.
  • Work with Director and students to schedule activities, generate guest lists, send invitations.
  • Work with students to coordinate reception tables, staffing, name tags, table assignments, advertising, clean-up, etc.
  • Supervise student group activities.
Qualifications:
  • Certificate or degree in a relevant field, preferably Business/Marketing/Communications.
  • Two or more years of related experience in business development, sales and/or external relations.
  • Proficiency with computers and software including Word, PowerPoint, Adobe and Excel.
  • Strong networking or relationship management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organized and able to keep on top of commitments and deliverables.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, changing plans, and managing the interests of a variety of different stakeholders to achieve short term objectives while working toward a long term goal.
  • Highly motivated with a demonstrated track record of working independently to deliver results while also maintaining strong cross-functional collaboration.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve, assess a situation, mitigate risk, apply judgement, and adapt and respond accordingly.
