The Lower Mainland Down Syndrome Society is a not-for-profit society, established in 1989. Our members believe that individuals with Down syndrome are capable of full participation in society and should be given the opportunity to develop their potential.

To make this mission come to life, the Lower Mainland Down Syndrome Society aims to:

Provide information, support, and resources to individuals with Down Syndrome in BC and their families Provide information about Down Syndrome and resources to people and organizations who support individuals with Down Syndrome and their families Advocate that governments and appropriate agencies provide the special resources often needed by individuals with Down Syndrome and their families Lobby for appropriate educational, vocational, and social opportunities Support families and increase public awareness Network with other organizations and individualsPURPOSE OF ROLE The Lower Mainland Down Syndrome Society Adapted Dance program provides a joyful and inclusive space for students with neurodiverse individuals to explore movement and music. Classes are structured to match the strengths and abilities of each dancer, helping them build both dance and LifeSkills in a supportive environment.
ACCOUNTABILITIES

Lead weekly adaptive dance classes for children and youth with Down syndrome, and Autism. Teach a variety of dance styles (e.g. ballet, jazz, hip-hop, creative movement). Adapt instruction and choreography to meet individual needs and abilities. Create a fun, safe, and inclusive learning environment. Collaborate with staff and families to support student progress. Prepare students for participation in a year-end recital.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

Experience teaching dance to students with special needs. Strong background in multiple dance styles. Knowleadge of inclusive teaching strategies and development disabilities. Outgoing, patient, and enthusiastic personality. Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
