Bilingualism The Active Transportation (AT) Coordinator will be responsible to oversee the implementationof theCity ofMonctonActiveTransportationPlan. The incumbent will also be responsible for responding to public inquiries on active transportation matters, and coordinating and promoting active transportation related projects, special events, and activities to promote safety and education. City of Moncton Salary and Wage Scale EDUCATION:
  • High School graduate or GED equivalency
  • Must have a post-secondary degree in Urban Planning, Urban Geography, Environmental Studies / Civil or transportation Engineering from an accredited college or university or equivalency
  • Training, certification, or experience in the fields of community development, public engagement, and project management.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in the field of transportation, with a focus on Active Transportation.
LANGUAGE:
  • English essential. The ability to communicate in French would be a definite asset.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Must have extensive knowledge of provincial and municipal policies and regulations (i.e., N.B. Local Governance Act, N.B. Motor Vehicle Act, Municipal Planning Strategies, Municipal Subdivision By-laws, Municipal Land Use Bylaws,), particularly as they relate to active transportation.
  • Strong understanding of community development processes.
  • Knowledge in the application of transportation planning methods and complete streets principles.
  • Familiar with current research related to policies and design standards in the areas of bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure and services.
  • Aware of the factors that influence travel behavior.
  • Demonstrated high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal assistance.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Team and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of GIS and AutoCAD software would be an asset in this role.
  • Ability to make decisions, to work in team environments, under pressure, associated with tight timelines and public scrutiny.
  • Keeps up to date on current research and practice in the field of sustainable transportation and active transportation.
  • Good presentation skills.
CONTACT :
  • This position will have significant impact on the image of the department and will have frequent contact with internal and external customers. Requires courtesy and diplomacy for exchanging information through calls from the public, members of council, and local organizations.
  • Maintains regular contact and liaises with external stakeholders such as community or intergovernmental groups, boards and committees and negotiates with affected parties on issues related to active transportation,
  • Requires behavioral characteristics that reflect the best interest of the corporation and the community at large.
  • Must use judgment and a high degree of customer service skills in dealing with contracts. Must be professional and neat in appearance.
SUPERVISION :
  • Can provide some supervision with temporary support staff.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and make decisions that reflect the established objectives of the department.
CONDITIONS OF WORK:
  • Normal working hours shall prevail, under agreeable working conditions in an office environment. This position will be required to work beyond the normal workday to attend regular public Council meetings, and other committee meetings.
  • Mental concentration is intense when interpreting regulations and drafting reports.
  • This position frequently responds to upset individuals over the phone and in person including time spent at public presentations.
  • Work under pressure of deadlines requiring the need to constantly reorganize priorities.
  • The working conditions are in concurrence with the CHEA/PSAC Local 60200 Collective Agreement.
