Job SummaryUnder the direction of the ACET Director of Operations (DO) and in collaboration with the ACET Partnerships & Engagement team, the ACET Research Impact Officer (RIO) leads the development and implementation of key strategic priorities and activities pertaining to knowledge mobilization (KM), impact and key performance indicators (KPI) for the ACET program. The role is a key enabler of research impact and strategy across the entire ACET initiative, including with ACET researchers and HQP, partner institutions, communities, NGOs, industry, all levels of government and other key partners, as appropriate, both nationally and internationally.This role requires demonstration of leadership, prioritization, creative solution finding, as well as collaboration, and works closely with other staff in ACET, the Office of the Vice-President Research and Innovation (OVPRI) and other units across the five partner institutions. This role requires an individual capable of driving comprehensive KM and KPI plans, engaging effectively with various parties, and innovating impactful research reporting strategies.Key responsibilities include:
  • develop innovative KM and KPI tools and strategies to ensure research impact is affected and measured throughout the ACET initiative, including community engagement in projects, government policy development and entrepreneurial thinking:
  • facilitate research impact communications and reporting:
  • chair the multi-disciplinary ACETKM Team and build a KM community of practice across the ACET institutions:
  • develop and update key performance indicators for the ACET program, and organize and coordinate efforts to measure research activities and impacts relating to the key performance indicators (KPIs);
  • systematize data, and manage internal and external reports and evaluations, including coordinating work related to collecting and submitting evidence to CFREF;
  • engage the UVic and external community in developing and delivering KM opportunities;
  • working with the ACET Communications Officer, support internal and external communications.
The RIO works collaboratively with ACET researchers and key personnel to develop discipline-appropriate strategies for knowledge mobilization activities and reporting on non-traditional research outputs, including as part of ACET Project development and approvals. This work also involves planning and organizing meetings; providing regular summary and detailed progress reports to the DO; writing reports; conducting research and analysis; and assisting with activities that advance the university rankings and reputation.Job RequirementsThis position requires a graduate degree in a related field (health, science, engineering, social sciences, humanities, arts) plus a minimum of 5 years of experience in research impact, knowledge mobilization or similar roles, preferably in post-secondary or research institutions. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
  • Experience collaborating with multiple parties to measure, report, and promote project impacts.
  • Experience in developing and executing KM and KPI plans, demonstrating strong project management skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with diverse partners to foster productive relationships.
  • Analytical expertise to synthesize and evaluate data for impactful reporting using international best practices.
  • A proactive approach towards problem-solving, strong conflict resolutions skills with a team-oriented approach.
  • Capacity to communicate complex concepts clearly to both internal and external audiences.
  • Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office suite).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.
  • Willingness to learn and apply local Indigenous protocols and cultural practices.
  • Commitment to staying updated on industry trends related to energy transformation.
Assets or Preferences:
  • Experience with all of the above in a research-focused environment.
  • Expert knowledge of research management/administration in the post-secondary education sector.
  • Background in research skills, methodologies, program evaluation and academic disciplines.
  • Experience developing knowledge mobilization efforts with communities, industry and/or government.
