General Accountabilities



Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Accounting Technician will maintain complete sets of books, keep records of accounts, verify the procedures used for recording financial transactions, perform accounts payable and receivables tasks, do biweekly payroll, audit our annual contracts, work with our human resources representative, and support the Operations Manager as required with general human resource tasks. Additionally, they'll display a proven ability to develop and maintain an environment of trust, diversity, and inclusion within the organization.

Specific Accountabilities



Customer Service

Positively represents CanGlass to internal and external stakeholders, contractors, and customers in a positive and professional manner. General administrative tasks such as checking the mail, bank deposits, answering the phone, general customer service. Responding to customer inquiries; in person, phone and email in a professional and timely manner Knowledgeable about and able to provide information on CanGlass services. Seek to understand individual client invoicing needs and assists them to find the most appropriate solution. Respects customer confidentiality and adhere to all relevant industry regulations, acts, and guidelines.

Teamwork

Actively participate and engage in team meetings. Consistently demonstrates positive, effective communication skills and interactions with team members and resolve issues when they arise Proactively share pertinent information with the team members Work cooperatively with Contractors, Customers, Suppliers and all CanGlass employees Provide administrative support and backup to the Office Coordinator as required

Job Knowledge

Keep financial records and establish, maintain and balance various accounts using QuickBooks Online, Jobber, and federal and provincial websites. Post journal entries and reconcile accounts, prepare trial balance of books, maintain general ledgers and prepare financial statements Review Account Payables invoices for appropriate documentation prior to payment, perform invoice and general-ledger data entry, execute credit card and bank account reconciliation, generate purchase orders when necessary, make monthly payments via direct deposit, credit card, online payment portals, or cheque Accounts receivable management; correctly invoice clients, track progressive billing, issue statutory declarations, ensure that the correct amounts are collected in a timely manner, verify and record transactions, resolve account discrepancies, and perform other tasks to secure client payments. Complete and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual tax remittance forms, workers' compensation forms, and other government documents Prepare other statistical, financial and accounting reports Manage biweekly payroll processing and accurately calculate and pay source dedications in accordance with Canadian tax regulations Records management of employee onboarding, offboarding, and ROEs as required Annual audits of insurance and phone plans

Safety

Contribute to the success of the CanGlass Health & Safety Management System by carrying out employee responsibilities, providing a safe working environment and injury free workplace for all employees in compliance with all pertinent legislation and the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code Recognize hazards, address them in a reasonable manner and/or reports physical problems Ensure that safety orientation is completed with all subcontractors and new employees and ensure they have WCB in good standing prior to payment

Education and Certifications



Completion of Secondary school - required*
Completion of a college program in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related field or completion of two years (first level) of recognized professional accounting program ((e.g., Chartered Professional Accounting, Certified General Accounting) or courses in accounting or bookkeeping combined with several years of experience as a financial or accounting clerk- required*
Experience in payroll administration-an asset and training available*

Abilities and Experience



5 years' experience in accounting- required*
Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel-required*
Must have a valid Class 5 driver's license- required*
Strong organizational skills with proven attention to detail and accuracy - required*
