My client is a strong national Canadian general contractor who has successfully completed multi-million-dollar ICI and residential projects and is looking to further expand their team in Toronto with the addition of an Accounting Supervisor

ABOUT OUR CLIENT:

For almost 50 years, our general construction client has managed and completed complex and unique ICI and high rise projects across the GTA. They offer their clients the highest quality project management services by utilizing the most innovative construction processes and the vast knowledge and experience of their construction team. Several of their team members have been with the company for over 10 years as all team members are provided with the guidance, support and strategic career developments plans to grow with the company.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Accounting Supervisor will lead a team comprising Analysts and Accounting Technicians, serving as a subject matter expert in the field. The successful candidate will contribute to the preparation, reconciliation, analysis, and overall integrity of financial data, assisting in various accounting duties including Accounts Payable, Receivable escalations, and other ad hoc tasks. Active involvement in monthly closing and accounts payable controls is expected, with a focus on productivity to enhance company processes. Exposure to project and/or construction sectors is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a team of 6 individuals
  • Participate in the month-end accounts payable process, including journal entries, reports, reconciliations, and variance explanations
  • Coordinate all accounting activities within the financial closing processes
  • Review accounting and accounts payable control tasks performed by the service provider
  • Implement and review internal audits, ensuring full compliance
  • Ensure the local team maintains and updates accounts payable matching, payment discounts, as well as balance sheet and income statement analysis
  • Assist in preparing financial reports for internal/external auditors
  • Perform or review high-risk account reconciliations
  • Ensure provisions are adequate and compliant with policies
  • Manage service provider escalations, requiring direct interaction with operations, finance, and management
  • Evaluate team recommendations and identify opportunities to enhance RONA\xe2\x80\x99s processes
  • Communicate control deficiencies and propose resolutions to Senior Leadership
  • Contribute to optimizing and automating processes
  • Participate in various special projects
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in business administration, accounting, or finance, or equivalent
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar position
  • Prior managerial/supervisory experience is preferred
  • Experience in the construction/real estate space is highly sought-after
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to synthesize information
  • Excellent prioritization skills in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • Effective communication and a willingness to adapt in alignment with corporate objectives in management, operations, and finance.
COMPENSATION
  • $80,000-$90,000
