Intermediate Accountant
Our Calgary SE based client is seeking an Intermediate Accountant. Reporting directly to the Controller, this position is responsible for full-cycle accounts payable and receivable, payroll preparation, and providing general accounting support in a dynamic, project-based environment.
Your success will be defined by your ability to:

  • Manage full-cycle AP, including invoice coding, approvals, PO matching, vendor payments (EFT, wire, cheque), holdbacks, and statement reconciliations.
  • Maintain WCB clearances, insurance certificates, and credit applications; ensure compliance records are up to date.
  • Prepare aging summaries, outstanding commitments, and support AP metrics reporting.
  • Prepare and issue customer invoices per contracts and milestones; manage holdbacks, compliance documents, and statutory declarations.
  • Track aging, follow up on overdue accounts, record deposits, reconcile AR subledger, and provide AR reporting for cash flow forecasting.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries (depreciation, prepaids, interest, FX), reconcile balance sheet accounts, and analyze variances.
  • Perform weekly/monthly bank reconciliations; prepare bi-weekly payroll, related journal entries, and labor cost allocations.
  • Generate department/project spending reports, budget-to-actual comparisons, and validate time tracking for job costing.
  • Assist Controller and leadership with ad-hoc requests; contribute to ERP, payroll, and time-tracking improvements and internal controls.
Your strengths include:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a similar field is required
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a construction or project-based environment
  • Proficient in accounting software and ERP systems, with advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, identify trends, and provide actionable recommendations.
