Works for Fort William First Nation and provides services to the members. Reports to the Chief Financial Officer. Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department, supervising the finance team and ensuring accurate and timely payment processing, receivables collection, payroll processing and cash flow planning. The Accounting Manager also maintains the organization's accounting systems and implements changes as required.
Major Responsibilities:
Manage the accounting operations including the review of journal entries, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and statutory reporting.
Supervise and support A/P, A/R, Payroll, and Senior Finance Officer staff and sets the priorities within accounting group.
Coordinate input collection for operational budgeting.
Ensure timely and accurate processing of all cheques and EFTs.
Prepare short-term cash flow reports and schedule banking transactions.
Assist departments with finance-related transactions.
Oversee payment calendar and approval workflows.
Prepare financial information for quarterly and annual reports.
Ensures rapid and consistent collection of receivables by refining and implementing control mechanisms.
Alternate support to sign and authorize cheques, purchase orders and invoices and EFT uploading.
Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of financial information.
With input from the Chief Financial Officer, assist with the formulation of accounting policies, procedures and controls.
Implement and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal regulatory and organization policies and procedures.
Work with operations to define, measure, analyze, improve and control current processes which impact client/customer quality and influence internal operating efficiency.
Provides advice and guidance on all accounting matters including financial systems, record keeping, analysis, and reporting.
Hiring, training, mentoring and supervising assigned accounting staff.
Other related duties and required or assigned.
Qualifications:
University degree in Business/Accounting required. Professional accounting designation (such as CPA) or enrollment in the program preferred.
Extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of non-profit and for-profit accounting and financial management.
Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, problem solving and organizational skills are essential.
Financial analysis, budgeting and some strategic planning experience.
Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel.
Management and or supervisory experience.
Professional written and verbal communication skills.
Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines.
Ability to interpret and implement organization policies and procedures.
Attention to detail in all areas of work.
Working Conditions:
Travel may be required
Overtime as required
Lifting or moving up to 10lbs may be required
