Job Description


Overview: Fountain Tire is hiring an Accounting Manager to join our Finance Team, working out of our Corporate Office in South Edmonton. This is a temporary position terminating April 30, 2024. The Accounting Manager will manage the accounting team in all areas of financial reporting requirements to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to Managers, Operations and senior management thereby ensuring the delivery of the financial component of the Fountain Tire Program.
Leadership

  • Provide leadership to the program team through performance management, daily mentorship and skill development.
  • Monitor compliance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE), company policies, procedures and processes and report thereon to the Director of Finance.
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of all related transactional processes and reporting to initiate and implement changes where necessary.
  • Manage compliance with query management and communication policies.
  • Lead special projects and/or cross-functional teams as required.
  • Participate in all safety initiatives as required or assigned, to guarantee safety at Fountain Tire.

Functional
  • Work with the Accounting team to design, develop, implement and maintain strong internal control processes in order to provide timely and accurate financial statements and to ensure assets are adequately safeguarded.
  • On a monthly basis conduct the proper review to ensure:
    • The cut off is accurate; including completion of the month end checklist.
    • Accurate financial results are reported by the specified deadlines.
    • The operations financial reporting package is completed by the agreed upon deadlines and any follow-up questions are addressed in accordance with the communication policy.
    • Financial reporting is accurately completed by the agreed upon deadlines and any follow-up questions are addressed in accordance with the communication policy, when assistance is requested.
    • Intercompany vendor reconciliations are completed accurately by the agreed upon deadlines, reviewed as necessary and identified issues are escalated as required.
    • Subsidiary records agree to the general ledger
  • On a quarterly basis conduct the proper review to ensure:
  • That other significant balance sheet accounts are reasonable.
  • Quarterly consolidated package is complete by the agreed deadlines with follow-up questions addressed by the team in accordance with the communication policy.
  • On a yearly basis ensure:
  • The budget process is developed, implemented and managed to ensure that budget tasks are completed, operations are supported through the process, and the budget package is delivered by the agreed upon deadlines.
  • Taxes are being accurately recorded and filed by the regulatory filing deadlines.
  • The year-end plan is developed, communicated, implemented and managed to ensure the delivery of accurate year-end financial results by the agreed upon deadlines.
  • Annual inventory count process is managed to ensure the count is completed within the specified deadlines and process support is provided to managers, operations and support desk
  • Implement processes and procedures to ensure the accuracy of inventory.
  • Manage the documentation, recording and completion of share transactions, new start-ups and closures.
  • Manage the maintenance of the reporting tools used by the accounting team.
  • Support the DRIVE program by providing Driver support and completing evaluations.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Finance.
Innovation

  • Manage the implementation of new or revised accounting practices, procedures and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain relevant operations performance metrics and financial statements as well as efficient methodologies for data collection, reporting and analysis to support them.
  • Develop and manage Fountain Tire Program Online content ensuring it is both relevant and accurate.
  • Develop and manage DRIVE program content ensuring it is both relevant and accurate.

Required Education and Experience
  • Professional accounting designation.
  • 7 years of related experience plus a minimum of 3 years leadership experience, a combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX would be considered a definite asset.

The necessary experience, knowledge, skills and abilities required in the role:


  • Strong working knowledge of financial statement preparation, corporate taxes, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Demonstrated initiative in recognizing efficiencies and implementing process improvement initiatives.
  • Lead, manage and interact with positivity and optimism.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to work with a variety of people in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to both lead and work within a team environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with an attention to detail in order to research and escalate issues.
  • Solid organizational and time management skills in order to prioritize competing demands and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships.
  • Strong computer and reporting skills with an advanced proficiency in MS Excel and Word.
