Job Description

Finance employees receive, account for, monitor, and design internal controls to safeguard sacred funds (donated confidentially in obedience to God's commandments) for the Church's religious mission under the direction of senior ecclesiastical leaders.





Under moderate supervision, incumbents in this position perform a variety of journey/working level accounting/banking clerical functions including calculating, verifying, posting, and summarizing accounting and/or banking information using a working knowledge of bookkeeping principles and methods. At this level, incumbents may maintain assigned segments of the accounting records such as accounts payable, general ledger bookkeeping, accounts receivable, or specified banking operations. Incumbents are expected to help maintain and ensure accuracy of financial information. (This is the journey level accounting clerical position. The Accounting Clerk, Senior is a senior level or specialist position that requires completion of two years of college level accounting courses or the equivalent training in banking operations.)



Specific work performed may vary between the different sections, divisions, and departments for this position. However, duties will typically be of similar complexity and difficulty and will usually include the following types of accounting clerical tasks:


1. Processing accounting/banking information including posting, comparing, computing, and reconciling standard and non-standard debit and credit entries in an accurate and timely manner.


2. Reviewing and verifying accounting/banking information for accuracy and completeness.


3. Summarizing basic to complex accounting/banking information and preparing summary documents and journal entries in an accurate and timely manner.


4. Making accurate adjustments within procedural guidelines.


5. Maintaining accurate logs of accounting/banking information that has been processed.


6. Responding in a courteous and professional manner to questions and telephone inquiries regarding accounting/banking information that has been processed.


7. Distributing information to assigned locations in a timely manner.


8. Filing and maintaining files that are accurate and up to date.


While expected results of various individual positions may vary, they will all typically center around timeliness, accuracy, throughput, and integrity of info.



A minimum of two years experience in accounting clerical or banking operations work or the equivalent combination of post high school education and experience.


Demonstrated ability to operate a calculator and personal computer operating in a network environment with a demonstrated proficiency in using word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.


Working knowledge and understanding of fundamental accounting and bookkeeping principles, methods, and office procedures.


Demonstrated proficiency with detail work.


(Some positions routinely deal with banking operational functions, and experience in these positions may not be readily transferrable to other, more general accounting clerical positions.)
