Reporting to the Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for elementary accounting, routine clerical and data input and verification work of considerable variety involving responsibility for processing and recording receivables and payables transactions, the reconciliation of individual items to total amounts, the preparation of batches for processing, key entry, on-line editing, input and batch updating and the filing of source documents and other materials. The incumbent codes, checks and balances invoices, purchase orders, equipment time sheets, bank statements, and other source documents; contacts respective departments regarding errors and irregularities in source data and corrects same as required; reconciles invoices to purchase orders; ensures that invoices are approved and that proper account codes are used. Prepares journal vouchers and periodic statements as required; posts and checks accounts receivable; prepares various invoices for payment; prepares a variety of monthly and year end account reconciliations. Answers routine telephone enquiries and replies to or refers same to appropriate contacts. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 including or supplemented by bookkeeping and commercial courses plus sound related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies and procedures applicable to the work; and of modern office practices and procedures. Ability to maintain sustained attention to detail and to learn data input and verification procedures; to process financial information with speed and accuracy and within deadline and to prepare records and statements; to maintain effective working relationships with staff and internal and external contacts and provide routine information and assistance on matters related to the work; and to operate common office equipment including a calculator and computer terminal.
