Job Overview
As a key member of MEC's Finance & Administration team, you will play an integral role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting. Reporting to the Controller, you will own facilities and property accounting, support capital asset and lease management, and provide meaningful financial insights to help guide operational decisions across the organization.
This role partners cross-functionally with other teams giving you broad exposure to how MEC runs its business. If you enjoy digging into details, improving processes, and contributing to a purpose-driven organization, this role offers a great opportunity to grow and make an impact.
Location:
This is a 2 day a week in-office role, based out of MEC's Support Office in Vancouver.
Responsibilities and Duties
Own all facilities and properties accounting
Prepare recurring period-end journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations related to rent, property tax, building maintenance, utilities, and other
Complete recurring operational processes such as drafting rent payments, and handling correspondence with landlords
Own capital assets and lease accounting, and assist with inventory accounting
Perform period-end financial statement analysis on select accounts to understand and explain variances from planned and past results
Work collaboratively with the Financial Planning & Analysis team to analyze current trends in the business
Suggest process improvements or potential opportunities for efficiency
Assist with information requests related to external audits and consulting engagements
Other ad hoc accounting duties as required
Qualifications
2+ years of progressive accounting experience with a strong understanding of financial reporting and accounting standards
Experience in full cycle accounting, analysis, reconciliations, period-end and year-end processes
Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting, or the equivalent experience
CPA designation is an asset but is not required
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and experience working with Microsoft Excel
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
You can handle many tasks at the same time and meet deadlines, while keeping cool and maintaining attention to detail
A good team player attitude, even when things get a little crazy; but you're just as comfortable working solo
You're flexible, adaptable - you love doing something new and different
The Compensation & Perks!
This is a permanent role with the anticipated salary range of
$60,000
to
$75,000
base
+
bonus.
The exact salary will be dependent on the successful candidate's relevant skills, experience, qualifications and internal equity.
