Kerr Controls Ltd. (Kerr) is a leading distributor of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration Equipment and Supplies. We have an immediate opening for a dynamic, dedicated and highly motivated Accountant to join our head office team in Truro, NS. In this role, you'll support the Controller in managing day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance, while also assisting with analyses, maintaining accounting practices, and administering the company's bi-weekly payroll.
Responsibilities:
Process weekly employee expense reports with accuracy and attention to detail.
Administer the company's biweekly payroll using Payworks, including salary adjustments, deductions, and record maintenance, ensuring all payrolls are processed accurately and on time.
Serve as the main point of contact for all payroll-related inquiries and ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including source deductions, benefits, and pension plan contributions.
Calculate bi-weekly commissions and complete quarterly commission updates.
Maintain accurate accounting records for the company's vehicle fleet.
Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules to ensure financial accuracy and completeness.
Investigate and resolve any reconciling items or discrepancies, maintaining clear documentation for audit and management review.
Support month-end and year-end closing activities, including preparation for internal and external audits.
Assist with the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.
Contribute to maintaining the accounting systems and records for Kerr Controls Limited and related entities within the Kerr Group of Companies.
Collaborate with the Controller during the annual audit process, ensuring all required documentation and schedules are completed accurately and submitted on time.
Qualifications:
Degree/Diploma in accounting, business, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) in progress or completed is considered an asset.
3-5 years of experience in an accounting or financial capacity.
Strong experience with bank reconciliations and general ledger account analysis.
Hands-on experience with payroll processing, using Payworks or similar systems, and understanding of payroll legislation
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Proficiency in financial systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and effectively manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven setting.
