Overview
Reports to the CEO and Executive Chairman, providing strategic leadership and financial oversight to support the operations at UP Vertical Farms. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team. This critical leadership position requires a combination of strong financial expertise and strategic vision. The ideal candidate will oversee financial operations, drive the company's financial strategy, and ensure regulatory compliance while contributing to the organization's growth and long-term success.
Duties
Receive, review, and verify invoices for accuracy and compliance with company policies.
Code and post invoices into accounting software (QuickBooks, ICICLE).
File and maintain vendor records and ensure proper documentation.
Reconcile accounts payable with supplier statements regularly to identify discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.
Record all sales transactions and payments in accounting systems.
Perform weekly reconciliation of production volume against partner sales reports.
Calculate sales and reconcile figures with partner records to ensure accuracy.
Conduct regular bank and credit card reconciliations to maintain complete and accurate financial data.
Prepare and present weekly cash flow reports to assist management in decision-making.
Prepare and remit payroll source deductions, taxes, and other statutory remittances (CPP, EI, WCB, etc.).
Ensure compliance with CRA and other government requirements for accounting and income tax matters.
Prepare and submit required reports to banks and financial institutions as per company needs.
Maintain accurate and organized financial records for audits and management reviews.
Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities.
Liaise with suppliers, partners, and internal teams to resolve accounting issues.
Communicate with CRA and other external parties on tax and compliance matters as needed.
Collaborate with management to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives.
Support management with special projects, ad-hoc financial analyses, and other related duties as assigned.
Continuously identify opportunities for process improvements in accounting workflows.
Qualifications
CPA is an asset.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or a relevant subject.
Minimum of 5 years of experience performing accounting responsibilities.
Strong knowledge of QuickBooks Online.
Experience with financial auditing and account analysis is a plus.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
