Do you love finance? Our client, The College of Veterinarians of Ontario is looking for an Accountant. This is a part time, independent contractor role, and the successful applicant will be expected to work approximately 20 hours a month. The successful applicant will be responsible for accounting operations, production of monthly financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, and audit preparation.
The College of Veterinarians of Ontario regulates the delivery of veterinary medicine in Ontario. All veterinarians who practice in Ontario must be licensed by the College. In serving the public interest, the College seeks to understand the risks involved in the practice of veterinary medicine and collaborates with partners to develop solutions which reduce the potential for harm to animals and people.
Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with administrative staff in processing invoices and issuing cheques.
  • Assist with payable processing, including recording VISA transactions, EFT transactions.
  • Preparation of month end financial information, including bank reconciliations, payroll journal entries, revenue, and receivable journal entries.
  • Preparation of monthly reporting package for senior management.
  • Processing monthly payroll for Councillor payments that need to be reported on T4 slips.
  • Prepare monthly RRSP analyses and related payments.
  • Assisting in the preparation of the annual budget, and additional analyses and reports for the Registrar, as requested.
  • Preparation of working papers for external auditors and provision of external audit liaison.
  • Monitoring cash flow including assisting in the need for monthly fund transfers from investment portfolio.
  • Performing all government compliance, including filing of HST, EHT and annual tax filings; main liaison with CRA for all enquiries.
  • Responding to queries.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Professional accounting designation in good standing is required.
  • Strong proficiency with Sage Accounting Software is an asset.
  • Experience working with small not-for-profit organizations is an asset.
  • Proven work experience in accounting or a related field.
  • Understanding of applicable laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions.
  • Strong organization and priority setting skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, specifically in Excel.
  • Deep understanding of finance.
