Job Title: Accountant

Department: Finance

Location: Burlington In-person / Virtual

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm

Hours of Work: Full-time (35 hours/week)

Reports To: Controller

We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to support the financial operations of our organization. As the Accountant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial systems.

These are your responsibilities:

Accounts Payable & Receivable

Record and reconcile purchases, credit card transactions, and rent bills. Issue invoices for tenants, rentals, and services; process deposits and payments.
General Accounting & Reporting (QuickBooks)

Maintain accurate records, accounts, and reports for new and existing programs. Prepare journal entries for payroll, rent, admin, pre-paid, and amortization expenses. Assist with quarterly reporting for the Board of Directors.
Claims & Compliance

Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure financial accuracy Prepare and submit monthly program claims and annual grant claims. Process monthly HST rebates and related journal entries. Support audits, funder reporting, and compliance requirements.
Reconciliations

Complete monthly bank reconciliations, payroll clearance, program revenue, and other accounts. Follow up on outstanding items to ensure timely resolution.
Support & Collaboration

Leverage technology to create efficiencies and process improvements. Work closely with the Controller, CEO, Leadership Team, and Coordinators to provide timely financial information. Provide backup support for payroll and accounts payable functions. Respond to inquiries from staff, vendors, customers, and auditors. Assist with additional finance and administrative tasks as needed.
What you need to bring to this job:

Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit or funder-driven environment. Proficiency with QuickBooks (or similar accounting software) and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Excellent communication skills with a collaborative, service-oriented approach and positive attitude.
