Kwadacha Nation (Tsek'ene) is commonly known as Fort Ware and is located approximately 570 km north of Prince George, at the confluence of the Fox, Kwadacha, and Finlay rivers in the Rocky Mountain Trench. Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accountant will manage all Financial services for Kwadacha Nation and the Kwadacha Education Society, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, expense reimbursement, bank deposits, credit card summaries, and provide oversight on all Kwadacha Community Store and Nation subsidiaries' financial activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee and lead the day-to-day management of financial services, validating all administrative tasks as a second step and providing guidance to team members in regards to Financial Services
Ensure that the financial administration systems, policies, directions and internal controls are appropriately designed and operating effectively
Cash management for cash receipts from the community members and community camp, and cash requests for the Community Store
Monitor cash flow, AP and AR timelines and status, as well as ensure bills are paid on time
Review the accuracy of all payables and receivables, as well as ensuring proper approvals
Supervise and guide all expense reimbursements, verifying documentation and adherence to policy
Monitor credit cards, review statements and summaries, and submit payment prior to the due date
Follow-up with customers on outstanding receivables in a manner that is polite but persistent
Provide assistance, ongoing communication, and guidance to vendors regarding financial services
Keep thorough and accurate documentation of all financial services in a safe, secure location
Provide backup for full life-cycle Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable responsibilities
Develop and implement new processes or procedures that will help improve efficiency, reduce costs, or otherwise streamline the flow of support to the Nation
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a mid-level or intermediate accounting role, with equivalent education or training
Proficient in accounting software such as Adagio, Sage Intacct, ADP, or similar platforms
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to communicate effectively on accounting and budget matters to ensure compliance with accepted policies and practices
Strong leadership skills with experience in managing teams, budgets, and strategic projects
Experience working with or within First Nations communities is an asset
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, reference checks & credit checks
Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License, clear Driver's Abstract, and willingness to travel within Kwadacha
