Job Description

We are seeking adaptable and community-focused Transit Drivers (small, wheelchair accessible bus) to join our team, playing a vital role in keeping our community connected.

The DYMO Bus is a specialized bus transportation service operated to assist Dysart et al residents with mobility difficulties and residents that require the assistance of a wheelchair-accessible vehicle. This service is an accessible, shared-ride, door-to-door, pre-booked service intended for persons unable to use conventional transportation due to a disability. The service is available on a temporary or permanent basis, depending on the user's eligibility.

The bus travels to five (5) areas within the County of Haliburton as well as specialized pre-booked trips to Lindsay, Peterborough, Bracebridge, Barrie, Oshawa, Toronto and Kingston and provides Long Term Care Facility and Medical transfers.

Compensation, Schedule & Training

Schedule: This is a part-time driver position. Shifts will be assigned based on operational needs and require strong flexibility for various shifts. Most scheduling is Monday-Friday between 8am-5pm, however in rare cases (based on rider needs) shifts may include evenings, weekends and statutory holidays. Wage: $19.50/hour Training: Successful candidates will complete a paid training program for DYMO specifically at a rate of $19.50/hour
Certifications & License Requirements

Class F or B driving license (Training to upgrade license from Class G to a B is provided) Clear driver abstract Clear Background Check and Vulnerable Sector Check Experience an asset
Experience & Skills Required:

Good verbal communication skills Ability to read, write and speak English and perform basic mathematical procedures Ability to work without direct supervision Strong time management and organizational skills. Patience and compassion is essential
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Ability to clearly, verbally communicate with passengers and dispatchers Required to sit while operating vehicle approximately 50% of the work day. The remaining 50% of the day will require the operator to move both in the internal and exterior perimeters of the bus, including a pre-trip inspection of the vehicle by walking around and through the vehicle as well as loading/unloading passengers in wheelchairs on and off the ramp and fastening/unfastening wheelchair restraints multiple times throughout the day. Ability to push/pull tension of at least 50lbs and ability to bend and stoop/kneel to assist passengers boarding and securing in wheelchair/scooters and/or to retrieve equipment. Subject to wet, cold and/or hot environmental conditions and various road conditions (wet, dry, snow/ice covered).
