In addition, the Department offers Masters and PhD programs.PositionThe Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts, at the University of Alberta is accepting applications for one full-time Academic Teaching Staff position (Rank, Assistant Lecturer) that will include 100% Teaching and Teaching Related Activities. This position may teach one to four courses each year to international students who are beginning their studies in the Faculty of Arts Foundation Program, in addition to regular department course offerings for undergraduate students.Courses the contract lecturer may be asked to teach may vary, and may include, for example:

  • PSYCH 104 Basic Psychological Processes (Science)
  • PSYCH 105 Individual & Social Behaviour (Arts)
  • PSYCH 212 Introduction to Research Methods in Psychology (Arts)
  • PSYCH 223 Lifespan Developmental Psychology (Arts)
  • PSYCH 239 Abnormal Psychology (Arts)
  • PSYCH 282 Behaviour Modification (Science)
  • PSYCH 303 History of Ideas in Psychology(Arts)
  • PSYCH 304 History of Modern Psychology (Science)
This position requires primarily in-person teaching and teaching-related activities, on the University Campus, to facilitate students\' learning and progress through their degree program as well as the operational needs of the Faculty.DutiesTeaching and Teaching-Related Activities:
  • Provides primarily in-person instruction to undergraduate classes; web-based delivery may also be required;
  • Delivers course content in alignment with the Department\'s learning outcomes;
  • Considers instructional and student evaluation methodologies for the assigned course(s), in consultation with department leadership;
  • Ensures availability for student consultation within and outside of scheduled class times;
  • Participates in scholarly teaching by remaining current and competent in the assigned course content, course design, and instructor performance in the classroom
  • Engages in teaching-related administrative duties
  • Attends orientations, academic-specific meetings or retreats, course-related meetings, and other activities related to teaching assignments;
  • Other clearly defined teaching activities as appropriate, assigned, and agreed to at the time of appointment or during subsequent annual assignments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Completed PhD Degree in Psychology or relevant discipline required.
  • Recent and relevant successful experience in post-secondary teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, indigenization (EDI+I), and decolonization within their teaching practice.
  • Content expertise in some specified course areas.
  • Ability to design and/or select, as well as administer effective assessments.
  • A commitment to learner-centred innovative teaching and learning practices, and continuous quality improvement;
  • Committed to the creation of safe and supportive learning and working environments, including knowledge of and commitment to Psychology and the U of A equity, diversity, and inclusivity (EDI) policies and practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style and to meet the needs of diverse students;
  • Experience and/or demonstrated commitment to internationalizing content and instructional strategies;
  • Commitment to inter-culturally sensitive assessment techniques.
