This is a 3-year contract with the possibility of renewal.The Academic Associate will work as the Field Coordinator for the Schoolxe2x80x99s Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program to support the Schoolxe2x80x99s Field Education team. The McGill School of Social Work offers the only professional social work program in Quebec for Englishxe2x80x90speaking people. The field education is the signature pedagogy of the Social Work profession. Every BSW and MSW (Masters of Social Work) student completes a significant number of hours in field settings within the health and social service community. A BSW student completes 700 hours of field placement hours over two years of academic trajectory (U2 and U3). This position will also encompass a new responsibility to manage the incoming MSW Qualifying Year student cohort (new for 2025) field placements, an additional 25 students to be xe2x80x9cmatchedxe2x80x9d in their field placement, with concentration on a block field placement in the CIUSSS system as a designated pathway.Thus, the Academic Associate position working as the BSW Field Coordinator manages the field education component for over 150 students each year which comprises a detailed set of responsibilities that include meeting individually with each student, meeting with each field placement site, and reviewing each studentxe2x80x99s cv and stated field placement interests to match the student with an appropriate field placement.Primary ResponsibilitiesUnder the Direction of the Director of the Field Education Program, the successful candidate will be expected to fulfill the following duties:

  • Interviewing, placing and supporting students in field placements;
  • Recruiting and evaluating new and existing field placements and supervisors in Montreal and nearby regions;
  • Developing mechanisms for overseeing the quality and standards for new and existing field placements;
  • Supervising a team of field liaisons, who act as support to students in their field placements;
  • Developing and revising administrative documents pertaining to field education;
  • Providing support and educational opportunities to field instructors;
  • Assist in planning and implementing field instructor trainings/workshops;
  • Participating fully in the life of the School (i.e., curriculum development, staff meetings, program committees);
  • Developing new field settings that match the learning objectives of the Schoolxe2x80x99s BSW and MSW-Qualifying Year programs;
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting issues with students when necessary;
  • Contribute to ongoing review and update of BSW field instruction manuals, forms, and so forth; and
  • Manage student expectations of their field placements.
Qualifications and Education RequirementsEducational requirements and experience:
  • A Master of Social Work (MSW) degree.
  • Knowledge of the Quebec and Canadian community and social service system; at least 5 years of professional practice with clients, groups or communities; knowledge of different levels of social work practice including work with individuals and families, small groups, community practice and policy development.
  • Experience with international community and social service systems an asset.
  • Experience with social work education an asset.
Skills:
  • Fluent oral and written English communication skills.
  • Fluently bilingual in spoken French.
  • Ability to understand the educational requirements and assessment of studentxe2x80x99s field placements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Organizational and administrative skills.
  • Computer literacy is a must.
  • Comfort and skills pertaining to mediation and conflict resolution.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Working within time sensitive conditions and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a timely manner.
