Job Description


The University of New Brunswick Fredericton welcomes applications for the position of 3D Print Specialist with the Department of Mechanical Engineering. This is a full-time (36.25 hours per week), 1-year term position with a salary range of $45,210 - $56,511 per annum. Reporting to the Director, the Print Manager is primarily responsibility for operating and maintaining the Print Centre facility/equipment under the UNB Marine Additive Manufacturing Centre of Excellence (MAMCE).

Position summary:

  • Maintain and oversee operation of Print Centre facility/equipment.
  • Manage print jobs/scheduling/consumable materials.
  • Schedule work on key pieces of equipment.
  • Maintain and clean equipment and facilities regularly.
  • Coordinate student projects, in collaboration with the MAMCE Director.
  • Manage supplies (powder, blades, sieves, filters, etc.).
  • Attend meetings, post-processing, etc. at UNB Fredericton campus routinely.
  • Prepare reports on each print job.
  • Maintain an up-to-date logbook of all activities at the Print Centre.
  • Coordinate with the Financial Officer on all financial transactions related to the Print Centre.
  • Coordinate with Custom Fabricators & Machinist facility to maintain the Print Centre safety/other standards.

Requirements/Skills:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent. A Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science would be considered an asset.
  • 2 years' experience with Additive Manufacturing hardware specific software, powder bed systems, wire EDM experience.
  • Experience working with Magics by Materialise.
  • Experience working on 3D printers and has familiarity with metal additive manufacturing technologies and metal powders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Able to effectively interface with a wide range of individuals.
  • Proven leadership skills, including the ability to motivate and coordinate teams and individuals.
  • Initiative-taking, self-starter, able to work independently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Intermediate level skill with 3D CAD software.
  • Able to travel routinely between the Fredericton and Saint John campuses.
