Job Description

The Fort St. John Association for Community Living (FSJACL)is a non-profit agency which has been providing quality supports to individuals with developmental disabilities and complex needs in Fort St. John and District since 1960. The FSJACL is an accredited agency with a trained, caring, and trusted professional team of over 80 employees who provide quality services and opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities. The FSJACL works collaboratively with community partners to achieve our vision of inclusion for all.



Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Finance is responsible for the full spectrum of financial and accounting functions of the agency. We are looking for a dynamic individual who has a higher-than-normal attention to detail, strong communication skills, good computer/ accounting skills, and who can work closely with our CEO to develop and meet our short and long-term goals in a fiscally responsible and transparent matter.



Duties:

Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and audits. Ensure compliance with GAAP, legislation, and internal financial policies. Develop and implement financial controls, systems, and procedures. Prepare financial statements and reports for the CEO and Board of Directors. Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering collaboration and accountability. Monitor budgets, analyze variances, and provide strategic financial advice. Manage payroll, benefits administration, and related accounting processes. Identify and mitigate financial risks to support long-term organizational stability. Liaise with auditors, funders, and external partners on financial matters.

Qualifications:

A degree in Accounting or Business Administration or diploma CPA designation preferred. Three (3) to five (5) years of accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Demonstrated experience in finance and accounting, including budget development, financial planning and reporting, forecasting, as well as management/establishment of internal controls. Experience in project and fund accounting Proven ability to identify existing opportunities, foresee upcoming challenges, and effectively react. Strong analytic and business skills Demonstrated ability to facilitate and work in a collaborative team environment utilizing best practices with effective time and project management skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with strong, effective oral/written communication experience particularly with businesses, community agencies, government, individuals, and families receiving our services. Strong information technology experience including accounting software systems (Sage, Accpac, and ComVida experience preferred) and Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills.

Requirements:

Valid driver's license, insurance & reliable transportation. Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.

Preference will be given to individuals who have worked in the Social Service sector and have knowledge of charitable organizations and associated requirements.



Salary Range:

$80,000 - $100,000 annually, based on experience.

Competitive Benefit Package: including extended health, dental, life insurance, LTD, and enrollment in the Municipal Pension Plan.



Hours of Work:



Full-time position working 35 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
