What you will be doing:
  • Assisting CNL in the preparation of a Species at Risk Annual Report.
  • Conducting data entry and analysis.
  • Assisting in the planning of the 2024 field season.
  • Conducting field work (e.g. Chimney Swift, turtle species, bats) according to the protocols provided by CNL in remote locations (e.g. forested lands, wetlands)
  • Providing support for the installation of physical barriers such as silt fence, or support in the installation of heavy field equipment.
  • Providing technical reviews of Species at Risk documentation prepared by CNL.
  • Preparing communication and training material for CNL employees on the identification of Species at Risk.
  • Providing advice and guidance to the project leader on the Species at Risk work plan and inventory protocols.
What we are looking for:
  • Be part of a university program in environmental sciences, environmental studies, environmental management or related fields.
  • A good knowledge of the Species at Risk Act and Federal and Provincial environmental regulations.
  • A good knowledge of MapInfo or ArcGIS software.
  • Knowledge of species at risk identification, ecology, habitat description and major threats.
  • Be available to work evenings, weekends and to travel to other sites for short periods of time, as required.
  • Be able to work physically using different hand tools.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft office software including Access, Excel and Word.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Be able to review, revise and interpret technical/scientific documents.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of environmental monitoring.
  • Knowledge of radiation hazards, radiation protection practices and radiation protection principles.
  • Be able to work as part of a team and meet deadlines and schedules.

Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom.
