Position Information:




Infection Prevention and Control Professionals responsibilities include development, implementation, evaluation, and education related to infection prevention and control policies, procedures, protocols, and directives. These responsibilities are performed in conjunction with incorporating infection control best practices specific to the hospital setting, with the goal of optimizing patient and staff safety outcomes in relation to established quality improvement indicators.



Essential Job Functions:

Integral competencies to the role include knowledge of infectious disease processes, microbiology, principles of epidemiology, research utilization and adult education. Provides a systematic approach to surveillance with the goal of monitoring and analyzing the effectiveness of infection prevention and control strategies, consistent with departmental quality indicators goals and objectives. Applies epidemiological principles and statistical methodologies to identify populations at risk; analyze trends and risk factors; and design and evaluate prevention and control strategies. Provides expert education and guidance as an integral team member across all healthcare settings with internal and external stakeholders by applying principles of infection prevention and control and adult learning theories. Understands and can implement directives and current legislation relevant to IPAC, such as the Public Hospitals Act, Excellent Care for All Act, HQO Patient Safety Indicators, Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), World Health Organization (WHO), Ministry of Health (MOH), IPAC Canada, and Public Health Ontario (PHO) regarding best practices, emerging pathogens and pandemic preparedness


Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in a health-related field such as nursing, microbiology, or health studies. Completion of a post-graduate IPAC course endorsed by IPAC Canada. Current CIC certification with the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) or obtained within two (2) years of hire. Maintains active CIC credentials through recertification every 5 years as required by CBIC Demonstrates commitment to professional development and continuous learning Current knowledge and understanding of infection prevention and control best practices. Three (3) years' experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. Knowledge of safety culture in a healthcare setting in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA). Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills in a clear and concise manner. Excellent teaching and presentation skills (planning, developing and conducting education) and applies knowledge of adult learning principles in educational opportunities. An effective influencer with knowledge of and demonstrated ability in coaching others and leading programs and projects. Ability to work independently while also demonstrating the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with both clinical and non-clinical teams. Proficient in computer skills including MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams and other MS 365 software. Current IPAC membership with national and local professional associations such as IPAC Canada and IPAC SWO. Demonstrate exceptional time management and organizational skills while performing a variety of responsibilities with competing deadlines.
