The Health Information Management Professional is responsible for abstracting and coding patient information, interpretation of source documents located in the patient health record, applying code assignment by selecting and assigning numeric codes based on ICD-10-CA/CCI to represent diagnostic and intervention data. Accurate code assignment involves interpretation and application of coding instructions, guidelines, conventions, standards, policies, rules and, ethics.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Review all charts (inpatient, daycare, emergency, ambulatory care clinic, chemo and dialysis) noting diagnoses, procedures, resources utilized, and physicians/professionals and services involved
2. Abstract information using 3M software, ensuring completeness, accuracy, consistency, and timeliness to MOHLTC and CIHI deadlines
3. Provide technical support to the Health Record Department
4. Other tasks associated with Coding and Abstracting
Qualifications:
Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent is required

Graduate of an approved program for Health Information Management.
Member in good standing with the Canadian College of Health Information Management
Knowledge of ICD-10-CA/CCI coding.
Excellent computer skills are essential.
Ability to handle confidential information with tact and diplomacy.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to deal with a variety of people and operate efficiently with minimal supervision.
Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience in DAD and NACRS coding.
Internal candidates must have satisfactory attendance and performance appraisal in current position.
