The Integrated Operations Center (IOC) is the first of its kind in Alberta Health Services, situated in the Edmonton Zone. The IOC is the "air traffic control center" of our acute system bringing together clinicians and data to support proactive, real-time decisions for patient movement across the health zone. The IOC monitors flow and bottles necks across the system, triggering actions or escalations, understanding the crucial relationship between technology and decision making to deliver high-quality patient services. This position works with a primary focus on patient flow and quality across the care continuum and with staff and leaders at many levels of the organization. The Patient Flow (PF) Quality Consultant supports the zone's integrated operations center (IOC) at a centralized location working collaboratively to monitor and continuously improve the zones proactive discharge model and operational targets and strategies as we work to support the day-to-day operations and patient flow business rules in the zone. The position provides key facilitation and monitoring to the zone leadership and sites during regular and non-regular business hours in the 24/7 operations center. In this position, you will work with a team of PF quality consultants in the daily operations of the IOC. This role provides a unique opportunity to advance your skills working at a system level while remaining connected to the core operational business with each site and program.
Description:
Working with the Manager of EZ-IOC Demand Capacity; the PF Quality Consultant plays an important role as a leader in the development and promotion of best practice in patient flow quality improvement, patient safety and demand/capacity methodology at a zone and system level. The PF Quality Consultant is part of the primary team managing and working in the IOC. PF role in the IOC is responsible for zone wide demand capacity throughput and the facilitation and escalation of patient flow in the zone daily in real time. The incumbent would facilitate zone wide demand capacity calls and assist in problem solving between sites and services across the continuum as well as partner to streamline acute care access for patients via RAAPID and EMS. While in the IOC, the role includes analyzing and escalating flow concerns, utilizing and developing key data measures. In addition to, working with the zone leadership to resolve barriers or challenges impeding patient movement. This role leads change through innovation and process improvement; integrating CoAct key elements, connect care workflows and patient flow best practice across the system. Each team member works a blend of regular and non-regular business hours to support the operations of the zone IOC 24/7 and demand capacity improvements. The incumbent must be flexible, organized, and self-directed to achieve desired outcomes in both areas of work while maintaining a work life balance. The PF Quality Consultant will be expected to take initiative and work independently and interdependently. PF lead must have leadership skills and well-developed system and critical thinking skills with the ability to problem-solve in a complex, multidisciplinary environment.
