The Youth Worker will play a direct role in the delivery of CACD's multi-semester youth programming. This role supports the academic, social-emotional, and leadership development of BIPOC children and youth, especially those facing systemic barriers.
The ideal candidate will bring energy, cultural competence, and a commitment to equity-centred approaches. They will foster safe and inclusive spaces while delivering dynamic, youth-led sessions focused on skills building, mentorship, and career pathways for young people aged 10-24.
Key Responsibilities
Program Delivery & Facilitation
Create lesson plans and learning outcomes tailored to the needs and strengths of diverse participants.
Ensure sessions are interactive, inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive.
Youth Engagement & Individual Support
Develop youth-centred plans to support personal, academic, and behavioural growth.
Support youth in setting and achieving goals using a strengths-based approach.
Provide mentorship and informal counselling to participants facing emotional, social, or cultural challenges.
Promote healthy identity development, well-being, and belonging.
Outreach & Community Connections
Assist with outreach, recruitment, and retention of youth and families.
Maintain active communication and partnerships with:
School guidance counsellors
Community organizations and cultural groups
Parents and caregivers
Identify and share community resources that meet the evolving needs of youth and families.
Youth Voice, Monitoring & Evaluation
Document sessional reports, incident logs, attendance, and participant feedback.
Support focus groups, surveys, and interviews to evaluate programme impact.
Involve youth in program design, feedback loops, and peer leadership roles.
Team Support & Volunteer Coordination
Guide youth volunteers, peer mentors, placement students, and program facilitators.
Support the orientation and integration of new staff and volunteers.
Collaborate with the Program & Admin Officer, Event Planner, and Executive Director on events, field trips, and special initiatives.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Post-secondary education in Child and Youth Work, Social Work, Education, Recreation, Community Development, or a related field (SSW, CYW, ECE, etc.).
Minimum 2-3 years of facilitation or direct youth work experience in community, school, or after-school settings.
Demonstrated experience supporting BIPOC, newcomer, and/or marginalized youth in culturally safe, inclusive environments.
Skilled in group facilitation, youth-led planning, and applying 21st-century pedagogical methods (project-based learning, digital platforms, trauma-informed care).
Ability to manage group dynamics, respond to conflict or behavioural issues, and de-escalate challenging situations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to produce session notes and contribute to impact reporting.
Confident with virtual tools (Zoom, Google Workspace, Canva, etc.) and able to deliver programming online if needed.
Awareness of community-based approaches to education, anti-racism, equity, and intergenerational change.
Familiarity with local community services in Peel Region is an asset.
Valid Vulnerable Sector Police Check (required upon hiring).
