Position: Youth Recreation Program CoordinatorDepartment: JusticeTerm: Full Time PermanentStart: ASAPThe Youth Recreation Program Coordinator is responsible for the co-development, implementation and evaluation of a variety of recreational programs which incorporate culture and traditions of the Kwanlin Dun people and promote pride in individuals, families and the community. Focusing on youth aged 6-17, the programming will have a main purpose of reducing risk factors and improving quality of life.The position will work with a community focused lens delivering key programming opportunities to children and youth. Collaboration within Justice and KDFN as a whole is needed to ensure effective planning for future programming that is in line with community needs. Monitoring all aspects of program delivery including mentoring support staff and liaising with the Manager, Community Recreation are large components of the role.The variety of programming provided allows individuals of all ages to learn, grow and contribute to personal and community health and well-being; not only onesaEUR(TM) physical wellness, but oneaEUR(TM)s spiritual, mental and emotional well-being, with recreation being a means to establish and instill pride in our cultural identity.We are seeking a highly organized, motivated and fun individual who has excellent interpersonal skills to be able to work closely with KDFN staff, participants and their families, and outside agencies.Essential Qualifications: A Diploma in Recreational Leadership or equivalent, OR a minimum of 2 years of relevant post-secondary coursework in recreation, health promotion or equivalent;A Recent, relevant experience in community recreation or health related work such as developing and implementing community-based health/social programs;A Experience in recreation program development, implementation and review is required;A Relevant experience in areas of, vulnerable youth, holistic health and wellness, program development and facilitation an understanding of the important role of Recreation in overall health;A Experience being fiscally responsible and in leading, motivating and mentoring staff and volunteers;A Land based and culturally relevant program implementation experience is an asset;A Workshops, training and certification such as occupational health and safety, national coaching certifications, wilderness/outdoor recreation certification, mental health first aid, ASIST are assets;Knowledge of Kwanlin Dun culture, history, agreements, goals and aspirations are required for success in this position. https://www.kwanlindun.com/about-the-kwanlin-dun/*An equivalent combination of education and significant experience in the areas identified above will be equally considered.Conditions of Employment: Satisfactory pre-employment criminal record check with vulnerable sector search; Yukon DriveraEUR(TM)s License (Class 4 an asset); Current satisfactory driver's abstract; First Aid & CPR (remote/wilderness first aid an asset); Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations as deemed by KDFN.Job requirements: maintenance of satisfactory security clearance and driveraEUR(TM)s license. This position requires flexibility of working hours in order to arrange and participate in evening and weekend recreational activities. It does not always follow standardized hours of work.
