JOB SUMMARY:
The Youth Outreach / Suicide Prevention Worker provides opportunities for the social connection and development of youth and engages youth in programming and activities according to the program plan. The Youth Outreach / Suicide Prevention Worker will provide special interventions for youth experiencing suicide ideation and self-harm, including risk assessments, screening for mental health issues, as well as school-based suicide prevention. The focus is a multi-faceted approach of contact, advocacy, prevention, and intervention. This position reports to the Team Leader and will support the various youth center programs. Duties include facilitation of psychoeducational and life skills workshops, leading and planning recreational activities, preparing food and crafts.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in child and youth care, social work, psychology, or other related science field.
Recent related experience working with vulnerable children and families preferred.
ASIST - Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, or similar training an asset.
Job Skills:
Knowledge of human development, attachment theories, and family systems.
Well-developed interpersonal communication skills, counselling/mediation, and experience working together with community partners and other professional staff, e.g., therapists, social workers.
Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and following program standards, policies, and procedures of the organization.
Providing life skills development and reinforcement of positive peer relationships.
Good oral and written communications, progress reports, statistics, and general time management skills.
Must be able to work independently, as well as part of a team and have flexibility to adjust hours to actively join in the Youth Centre programming.
Other requirements:
Police Information Check with vulnerable populations enhancement, Valid Class 5 BC drivers' license, and Drivers Abstract.
Hours of work: 32 hours; 4 days per week
Hourly pay rate: $ 27.54 per hour with benefits after three months
Start date: ASAP
