Nature & Scope:
The Youth Gambling Awareness Program is a provincial education and prevention initiative funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The program is designed to raise awareness regarding youth gambling in Ontario and is lead by the YMCA of Greater Toronto, in collaboration with other YMCAs across Ontario. This position will service Kingston and its surrounding area, including Brockville and Napanee area.
With the support of the YMCA of Greater Toronto and YMCA of Eastern Ontario, the Youth Outreach Worker will deliver awareness sessions, youth engagement activities, and community involvement initiatives with respect to youth gambling in a variety of settings.
Responsibilities:
? Establish and maintain relationships with local school boards, community and youth service providers
? Develop and implement effective outreach strategies to engage local community, meet monthly targets and increase YGAP's reach
? Deliver and facilitate educational workshops and activities; plan, organize and implement community involvement initiatives to raise awareness about youth gambling
? Develop, engage and support an advisory/partnership committee (including youth and adults)
? Maintain accurate records and statistics, as well as report monthly on all YGAP activities and outcomes
? Working in conjunction with Marketing & Communications, create content to support the program's online strategy and presence
? Attend and promote gambling awareness in community meetings and events/fairs, such as Gambling Awareness Week, Financial Literacy Week, and Credit Education Week
? Research and remain current with respect to issues and trends related to youth gambling
Qualifications:
Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) including Vulnerable Sector Check completed not more than 120 days prior to interview, with results acceptable to the YMCA of Eastern Ontario
Post-secondary education in Social Sciences, Education or other related field
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to draft and design clear and compelling communications;
Experience in the delivery of public health, prevention and awareness initiatives
Experience with outreach activities and strategies
Experience in facilitating groups, with a particular focus on the principles of youth/adult learning
Experience in working with youth of diverse experiences
Flexibility regarding assigned work hours and possible travel
Ability to work in an efficient manner with a high degree of independence
Experience in online communications, social media or interactive engagement
Must have use of a car
Knowledge of the community resources, gambling issues and the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum are considered assets
