: Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Youth Outreach Mentor is responsible for supporting the delivery of PICS' Youth program. The role includes providing one-to-one and peer mentorship, engaging youth aged 14+ in structured fitness and recreation activities, assisting them in developing health and fitness action plans, and coaching them to set SMART goals for personal growth and future success. The Youth Outreach Mentor also monitors participant progress and prepares reports for management and Funders.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
works with youth aged 14-29 in Surrey, Delta, and Langley, providing mentorship focused on physical fitness, health, and overall wellness;
encourages participation in sports, fitness, healthy lifestyle strategies, and positive role modelling for youth;
conducts applicant eligibility assessments and refers ineligible applicants to alternative programs;
conducts intake interviews to identify client interests, goals, needs, and potential risks;
facilitates orientation sessions to set program expectations;
maintains accurate records, tracks statistics, and prepares reports; attends meetings as required by PICS;
establishes positive rapport with participants using a nonjudgmental and culturally sensitive approach;
supports clients in building Health and Fitness Action Plans using SMART goals and track their progress using case notes;
refers clients to additional supports or resources as needed;
provides ongoing mentorship through one-to-one and group sessions, skill-building activities, and weekly discussions;
assists youth in connecting with community resources and coordinates relevant activities;
promotes physical health, mindfulness, emotional wellness, and a strong sense of identity and belonging;
consults with and reports regularly to the immediate supervisor;
supports and participates in PICS community initiatives and social projects; and
performs other job-related duties or community initiatives as assigned.
Education and Knowledge:
undergraduate degree or diploma in social sciences, psychology, criminology, health & fitness or kinesiology and a minimum of 1 year of work experience in a similar position or the equivalent of education, training, experience and certification;
current first aid certificate; and
experience working in an environment with a young adult client group is an asset.
