POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The Youth Ministries & Outreach Coordinator will provide oversight to youth ministries programs and give focused attention to strengthen and grow the programs and attend to the spiritual growth and development of the youth and young adults. In a cooperative team-based environment the incumbent will design and implement a holistic Gospel Centered and relational focused ministry including but not limited to Christian discipleship, leadership development, community outreach and community partnerships.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
GeneralContribute to the spiritual development of youth within the church and community by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modeling appropriate attitudes and behaviors.
Cultivate a "spiritual and relational leadership style" with young people, their friends, and their families.
Coordinate and maintain (or when necessary, reimagine) existing programming relevant to the youth of the church and community at large, including worship, fellowship, discipleship, and regular special events. This will include direct leadership of Junior and Senior Youth Group and Student ministry.
Conduct and coordinate Bible studies for youth and students.
Work as a key member with the church's Pastoral Team providing pastoral care and oversight for youth ministries - Jr. & Sr. High.
Develop, organize, and mobilize a comprehensive outreach ministry for our communities, providing regular programs (e.g., organize and facilitate Summer and March Break Day Camps etc.) events that will connect with young people that are not actively connected with any other church and those with our Community & Family Services ministries.
Network with other youth leaders, community youth organizations and schools in Oshawa and Durham Region, as well as the Divisional Office personnel and camping ministries.
Coordinate, promote, support, and participate in Divisional and Territorial youth events.
Create & coordinate evangelistic outreach activities and pastoral care programs (including to parents/guardians of the youth and students involved in programs).
Assist in the planning of assimilation strategies and events as required to promote incorporation into the church fellowship.
Pray with and or lead children/youth and family members to faith in Jesus Christ as opportunity permits.
Know and act in accordance with security procedures of the church to ensure the safety and confidentiality of participants and information.
Maintain written records/logs of activities (including activity reports and statistical information).
Organize and hold fundraising events throughout the year.
Be willing to make Oshawa Temple your home church, with the understanding that Sunday meetings attendance is an essential part of the ministry responsibility.
Ensure that all duties are completed in accordance with the principles, standards, policies, and procedures of The Salvation Army.
Youth ProgrammingOrganize and participate in the teaching ministry for Jr. High & Sr. High.
Equip, mentor, coach, and counsel those engaged in youth ministry.
Utilize existing facilities (church, community and family services, gym etc.) to engage church and community youth.
In cooperation with available professionals, determine best steps and practices to meet the mental health needs of youth.
Further develop / support and facilitate community programs (e.g., anti-bullying / anger management program for school students).
Plan and conduct creative worship services as scheduled throughout the year.
Plans, promotes and supervises 'special events'(Rally Day, Youth Retreat, March Break Camp, Summer Day Camp and other Divisional Youth Events).
VolunteersRecruit, supervise, orientate, support and train volunteer leaders for youth programming in partnership with the Youth Leadership Team and Corps Officers.
Develop training processes for volunteer leaders, workers, and helpers. This includes holding regular leadership & team meetings.
Develop strategies and recommendations for volunteer engagement and team development.
Deal with volunteer complaints and incident reports.
Prepare, post, and maintain all volunteer schedules for those supervised in accordance with operational requirements ensuring adequate coverage for all program functions.
Ensure completion of police checks for volunteers, statement of applicant for work with children and youth forms, and online abuse prevention training.
Administration:Work with the Administrative Coordinator to maintain youth contacts in Planning Center People.
Use Planning Center Events & Registration to provide statistical records as required.
Prepare necessary communications for distribution.
Prepare and distribute monthly / quarterly updates related to ministry development.
Conduct debriefs and assessments on current ministries and adapt as required.
Facilitate and organize outreach programs (e.g., community Summer & March Break Day Camp)
Design and draft promotional material to highlight programs subject to supervisory approval.
Develop annual Social Media Calendar and supervise youth influencers posting.
Communication:Maintain frequent contact of youth - by phone, email, social media etc.
Communicate in an empathetic manner with congregants, families, and staff.
Inform the Corps Officer regarding any concerns or issues in a timely manner.
Health and SafetyWork in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
Maintain program storage areas (e.g., updating, safety, organizing, etc.).
Seek out continual education in food safety and health standards, including maintaining Safe Food Handling Certification.
Perform other duties as required.
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:This position reports directly to the Corps Officer or designate.
The incumbent is responsible as a group/work leader.
Hold regular volunteer meetings.
The incumbent directly supervises approximately 10 to 12 youth volunteer leaders within established guidelines.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:This role is responsible for maintaining current curriculum and program equipment.
Provide input into the departmental budget and be required to monitor the quarterly financial performance accordingly.
WORKING CONDITIONS:This is a contract full-time position based on 40 hours per week.
Flexibility in scheduling is required as it relates to the hours of work; evenings and weekends are a required part of the schedule.
Working environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions.
Ability to lift/move up to 40 lbs. This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a sitting, and standing position for periods of time.
Travel is associated with this position {10%}. i.e., on occasion pick-up supplies, attend community meetings. Note: program vehicle may be available upon booking.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:Completion of or working towards a post-secondary certificate or college diploma in a related area of study. i.e. Youth and childcare, or Social Studies
Be or commit to becoming a regular member of The Salvation Army Oshawa and participate fully as part of the congregation.
Proof of valid Current CPR/First Aid certification, or willing to obtain and maintain current certification.
Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License; would be helpful but not mandatory.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience working with youth programming, youth leadership; supervisory experience coaching, leading, and motivating volunteers.
Heart for the mission and passion for the souls of young people and a love for the Church and community.
Fundamental Christian Counselling an asset and conflict resolution skills.
Capable of assessing and discerning youth needs and developing an appropriate response.
Innovative - A proven ability to think "outside the box", methods of outreach, discipleship training and other areas of ministry
Be a person of vision with the ability to cast vision and motivate.
Solid grasp and application skills in social media applications (advertising, creating videos etc.)
Proficiency with social media and Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher.
Ability to embrace growing technology needs - able to post to social media platforms and aptitude to develop online communications.
An ability to communicate, motivate, train, and empower volunteers in the ministry of the Church.
Experience and Understanding of Planning Center https://www.planningcenter.com/ is an asset.
Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $48,428.77 to $60,535.97 with a maximum of $72,643.16.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
