Youth Hub Peer Leader - Full-Time (36.25 hours per week)
12 Month Term$15.80 to $17.58 per hour
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including other Peer Leaders, the Youth Hub Peer Leader will create a safe, supportive, empowering, and welcoming environment for youth to be active decision-makers and partners in the program and will play an integral role in the development, delivery and support of youth hub services and programming and service navigation and connections.
Under the direct supervision of the Huddle South Central Youth Hub Coordinator, and working within program objectives and organizational goals, the Peer Leaders will assist with a variety of Huddle programming and service initiatives that help improve the lives of youth and their families.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
•Engagement and Service Navigation •
• Greet and engage participants throughout their involvement at Huddle, including supporting advisory committees and groups
• Build positive rapport and trusting relations with all visitors and youth hub participants.
• Provide follow-up and navigation services to participants on behalf of Huddle teams
• Work in collaboration with other Huddle staff and teams to facilitate and coordinate programming and seamless service delivery.
• Provide information over the phone and in person on community resources and services offered at the Youth hub and in the community
• Provide support to individuals utilizing walk up and drop in services
•Administrative Support •
• Maintaining all necessary documents and documentation standards
• Assist with front reception and greeting duties, including telephone coverage, appointment and meeting bookings, payments, and general customer service
• Complete all data collection and statistical reporting as it relates to the role
• Successfully utilize Accuro (electronic medical chart)
•Program/Service Facilitation: •
• Assist with the planning, implementation, structure, and evaluation of Huddle programming, including the facilitation of group activities
• Assist program staff to provide health promotion education and youth friendly events
• Assist with in-person workshops, training, and other specific activities/events
•Crisis-Intervention and De-Escalation •
• Assist in supervising participants with support from other youth program staff.
• Evaluate immediate safety risks, de-escalate, and diffuse conflict in an assertive, timely fashion
• Act as a first responder (CPR/First aid)
• Integrate trauma-informed/healing centered principles and strategies
• Create and facilitate a calm, compassionate environment for those experiencing distress.
Qualifications:
• Completion of high school
• Minimum 2 years' experience in social services environment
• Demonstrated capacity to build effective and "safe" rapport/relationships
• Extensive knowledge of community resources and health and social services system
• Demonstrated ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and those who are systematically oppressed.
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated ability to work with individuals experiencing distress
• Demonstrated capacity in de-escalation
• Demonstrated ability to manage competing demands
• Demonstrated bilingualism is an asset (French and English or English and another language)
