With our BVU Youth programming, we are seeking an inclusive, LGBTQ+ affirming, compassionate youth leader who can encourage youth to grow in faith, resilience, and courage as they explore what it means to live with justice, hope, and compassion.
No prior church experience is necessary -- we welcome all who are passionate about youth leadership.
Position Summary
We are seeking a
Youth Group Leader
to guide, mentor, and inspire junior and senior youth. This is a contract position for approximately
10 hours per week
. We welcome applications from people who bring creativity, compassion, and a commitment to youth leadership.
Responsibilities
Plan and lead
Junior Youth Group
(2 Friday evenings per month, ~2 hrs each)
Plan and lead
Senior Youth Group
(2 Friday evenings per month, ~2 hrs each)
Provide leadership for
combined youth gatherings
during ConXion service time at 11 am on Sunday mornings (~1 hr each)
Create safe, engaging, and welcoming spaces for youth to connect, share, and grow
Collaborate with ministers, volunteers, and parents to support youth participation
Develop and prepare program materials, activities, and communication (approx. 7 hrs/week outside of group times)
Qualifications
Passion for working with youth and creating inclusive spaces
Understanding of the joys and struggles of youth life
Fully present with youth in spirit--breathing with their energy and rhythm
Ability to affirm the cultural and racial backgrounds of youth, respecting and lifting up their uniqueness and authenticity, and engaging each life with loving attention
Understanding of the gifts of neurodivergent youth and youth with disabilities
Comfortable co-planning and collaborating with the support of compassionate, grace-inspired lay leaders--a true team player
Appreciation for multicultural perspectives and experiences
Training or lived experience in social justice and anti-oppression, with an understanding and practice of Truth and Reconciliation
LGBTQ+ affirming, with awareness of the hopes, struggles, and dreams of LGBTQ+ youth, and a commitment to full allyship
Experience in youth group leadership (non-profit or church), education, or related fields is an asset
Contract Details
Hours:
~10 hours per week
Schedule:
Friday evenings and Sunday mornings (3 hours of contact time with youth per week) + ~7 hours per week for planning, and occasional special events/engagements outside of regular group hours
Compensation:
$25.75 per hour
