Youth & Family Worker
(YFW) who brings heart, creativity, and commitment to support youth aged 13-18 in the South Surrey/Whie Rock community.
Alex House is a member of the Association of Neighbourhood Houses BC (ANHBC), a non-profit community-based organization est. in 1894. Alex House operates multiple sites in Surrey & White Rock, with our main facility in Crescent Beach, where we operate on the stolen and occupied land of Semiahmoo Nation. YFW Role:
The role offers both 1-1 and group support to help youth navigate challenges, build life skills and strengthen community connections. Using a strength-based, youth-centered approach, the YFW meets youth where they're at, fosters a sense of belonging and empowers them to reach their goals. The YFW collaborates with families, community partners and team members, and plays an active role in Youth Space - supporting interactive programs that build social, emotional and interpersonal skills. Our work is rooted in inclusion, equality and community building. Key Responsibilities:
Build trusting relationships with youth and families, providing culturally responsive support and advocacy.
Manage a caseload with all required documentation and reporting.
Conduct weekly outreach and respond to urgent needs using a trauma-informed approach.
Support Youth Space programming (individual and group), providing practical resources and attending at least once weekly.
Assist in planning and delivering life skills, recreational, and cultural workshops.
Collaborate with community partners (e.g., MCFD, CYMH, schools) to support youth well-being.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to record-keeping standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong ability to build connections and meet youth where they're at.
Understanding of the diverse and complex needs of marginalized youth.
Experience with trauma-informed practice, harm reduction, adolescent development, and system navigation.
Skilled in crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and problem-solving.
Professional communication, documentation, and boundary-setting skills.
Knowledge of community resources, group facilitation, and case management.
Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
Flexible, resourceful, and well-organized.
Second language an asset.
Qualification
? Diploma, degree or attending education in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Counselling, Education, Health Sciences, or related field
? Prior volunteer, work, or lived experience with vulnerable populations
? Understanding of Cultural Safety and Cultural Humility, and approaching the work through a decolonized lens
? Personal vehicle insured for business use, minimum $2 million liability and valid driver's license and satisfactory current driver's abstract (mileage paid)
? Current First Aid & CPR certificate; Foodsafe certification an asset
? Clean Criminal record check

28-35 hours/week, including some evening hours.
