Job Description

If you are creative, flexible, self-directed and enjoying working with youth, we want you on our team! We are looking for enthusiastic and experienced youth workers. Your educational background should be in human services, child and youth services, mental health, healthcare or education. Related experience will also be considered. The hours of work are variable, but generally Monday to Friday afternoons and early evenings. Some weekend work might be scheduled at mutual agreement between the team member, Clinical Director and clients. We offer a flexible work agreement that allows some degree of self scheduling.

Our clients benefit from consistency and relationship building. As such, we are looking for candidates who are available year round, and willing to commit to at least one year employment with us.

About us

TherapyWorks Neurodiversity Services and Counselling Associates is an agency that specializes in support and services to individuals with neurodiverse conditions such as Autism, learning disabilities, ADHD, FASD, anxiety and depression. Services include counselling, one to one and group therapy services, life skills, social program opportunities, educational consultation and tutoring, youth support work, and executive functioning coaching and supports.

The position

This role includes a variety of key activities:

Your role will include assisting clients with academic skills and incorporating fun activities and multisensory learning approaches that help them build on the strengths of their learning style. If you are skilled in math and sciences, please indicate that in your resume as well. Many of our clients are reluctant or challenged learners and flexibility, compassion and patience are a key skills needed to support them.

Duties also include support to group programs including Therapeutic Theatrics, ImprovAble, Escape Groups, DND, and Social Engagement groups. You will also provide one to one support to children and youth with social, behavioural, learning, or developmental needs. You will plan activities and implement programs developed by therapists and educational or developmental consultants. You will support youth in developing and practicing life skills and community based programming for teens and young adults.

We aim to provide flexibility in setting your hours, collaboratively with the clients assigned to you. Some group work may be required at set times weekly. We are looking for a candidate who has availability 2-3 days per week from 1 to 6 PM approximately, with one or two weekly later group session (to 8:30). Morning hours are possible, but tend not to be the highest demand time for client appointments. The weekly hours are an estimate and can be higher or lower, depending on client need.

Position requirements:

Post-secondary education in rehabilitation, social work, human services, education, or psychology, or a related field is an asset.

Prior experience working with children and youth or with individuals with developmental, mental health or learning needs is required. However, TherapyWorks Neurodiversity Services and Counselling Associates is intentional in providing services that are not aligned with traditional or modern behavioural interventions and candidates with experience working outside of this approach will be prioritized.

Ability to work independently and seek out novel activity ideas to keep clients engaged.

Successful applicants will be required to submit a vulnerable sector criminal record check and must have a valid driver's license and auto insurance.

The position requires some driving, and mileage is reimbursed. A clean driving abstract, business use insurance, and a reliable vehicle are required for the start of the position.

This position is in person in Kamloops. Candidates require Canadian citizenship, permanent residency or a valid permit/visa that authorizes work in Canada.
