Position Overview
The Youth Coordinator for Ontario is responsible for implementing the Youth Eco-Stewards (YES) Program throughout Ontario. This role focuses on engaging youth and young adults (ages 12-30) in hands-on, community-based projects that address invasive species and related environmental challenges in their local areas.
Working as part of a national team of regional coordinators, the Youth Coordinator will collaborate with youth, partners, and communities across Ontario to build local engagement, support youth-led action, and contribute to national initiatives through the Invasives Canada Youth Network. The role will also support the ongoing development of a national, youth-led network, contributing to shared learning, collaboration, and aligned delivery of the YES Program across the country, while helping to amplify youth voices and foster regional connections.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the delivery of the Youth Eco-Stewards program across Ontario, supporting youth-led activities related to invasive species prevention and management.
Support the achievement of project deliverables by working closely with and under the direction of the Program Manager for Youth Engagement.
Recruit, engage, and support youth participants in the region to build their capacity as environmental leaders and stewards.
Ensure intentional engagement with youth from underserved and underrepresented communities, including rural, Indigenous, racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+, and low-income populations, as a core program deliverable.
Support local outreach initiatives, including social media, advertising, and promotional activities, with guidance and support from the YES Communications Coordinator.
Organize and deliver local events and projects, such as invasive species removal days, bioblitzes, habitat restoration activities, awareness campaigns, and community workshops.
Facilitate mentorship and peer-to-peer learning opportunities, connecting youth within and across Ontario communities.
Collaborate with schools, youth-serving organizations, environmental NGOs, Indigenous communities, and other local partners to expand program reach and build relationships.
Coordinate storytelling and knowledge-sharing activities, including youth-generated blogs, videos, and social media content that reflect local and cultural perspectives.
Contribute regional content and updates to the national YES Program, including input into national youth events, training, and communications.
Support project documentation, including collecting photos, stories, and feedback from youth participants to inform program evaluation.
Travel within the province as needed to attend events, connect with youth, and support in-person programming.
Perform other duties as requested by the direct supervisor that support national program priorities and overall project goals.
