About Us



Since 1979, Project Adult Literacy Society (PALS) has been a registered charity dedicated to changing lives through literacy. Each year, we support over 600 adult learners in developing essential skills through free, personalized tutoring in reading, writing, English language learning, math, financial literacy, and digital literacy.

In 2026, we are excited to launch a new

youth program for individuals aged 18-25, designed to enhance literacy, job readiness, and well-being, and provide pathways to education, employment, and community engagement

. We believe every young person deserves a safe, supportive, and engaging space to grow in confidence, build skills, and prepare for their future.

To make this vision a reality, we are seeking a Youth Learning Coordinator--a passionate, motivated, and responsible leader who can guide and inspire young people while ensuring the program runs smoothly.

Position Overview



Reporting to the Literacy Program Coordinator, the Youth Learning Coordinator will be the heart of our new youth program. This role combines program management (including scheduling, communication, supervision, coaching, and mentoring) with

direct facilitation

of group learning sessions.

Key Responsibilities



Program Coordination



Organize program logistics: scheduling, materials, and communication with participants and volunteers. Track attendance, progress, and learning outcomes. Provide supervision, coaching and mentoring to support participants' success. Organize evaluation activities for the program. Gather feedback from youth to improve and adapt the program. Act as a bridge between participants and the program team. Build connections with guest speakers and community partners. Take care of logistical details to keep classes and events running smoothly.

Facilitation & Instruction



Lead and teach youth sessions twice a week (based on a ready-to-use curriculum). Create a safe, welcoming, and youth-friendly learning space. Supervise and oversee both classroom and take-home activities to ensure the effective implementation and success of the program. Adapt lessons to meet different learning needs with patience and creativity. Encourage participation, teamwork, and confidence-building. Provide one-on-one support when youth need extra guidance.

Administration & Support



Maintain accurate records and reports for the Literacy Program Coordinator. Contribute to developing resources and take-home practice activities. Support and guide volunteer tutors and teaching assistants.

Qualifications



Post-secondary education in education, psychology, social work, community development, or related field (or equivalent experience). Training in youth/adult learning is an asset. Experience leading or facilitating groups, ideally with youth or young adults. Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively with youth from diverse backgrounds, including those facing barriers. Comfort with literacy, numeracy, and digital learning content (training provided). Flexible, empathetic, and able to inspire a positive learning environment. Preference will be given to those with experience working with young adults.

Working Conditions



In-person at PALS office (#416, 9707 110 Street NW) Occasional evenings or weekends for events or outreach. Reports to: Literacy Program Coordinator.
