Under the direction of the Community Programs Supervisor, the Youth Center and its programming are designed to address and facilitate the personal, social, and emotional development of young people between the ages of 13-29. The Youth Centre Coordinator will develop and plan programs to support youth to make choices about their present and future options regarding education, health and leisure, careers, and social situations. The Youth Centre Coordinator will provide basic advising, coaching, and referral to professional services/agencies.
Key Deliverables and Expectations:
Administer programs including activity scheduling, event planning, transportation coordination, and record keeping.
Organize cultural, social, activities and distribute a monthly schedule of activities.
Provide shopping schedule for regular meals and for food pantry.
Responsible for the safe opening and closing of the Youth Centre.
Ensure the cleanliness of the Youth Centre, both interior and exterior.
Participate in meetings with the Youth Council.
Organize opportunities for the youth to interact with the Elders of the community to foster mutual respect and understanding.
Organize workshops and training for the youth, and youth conferences in and out of the community.
Resource & inventory management of the youth center assets (groceries, games, office supplies, small appliances, etc.).
Complete records, statistics, and issue quarterly reports.
Create and enforce policies at the Youth Centre.
Able to assess, manage, and provide first aid if required, in emergencies.
Assist in applications for funding for the Youth Centre, when needed.
Incorporate Ucwalmicwts language and Lil'wat culture into programs and workshops.
Create and maintain incident reports.
Communicate with parents and guardians, when needed.
Establish collaborative working relationships and partnerships with local schools, RCMP, non-profit organizations and other community youth service providers such as Youth Crime Prevention, XCS, Health and Healing, etc.
Coordinate weekly meal preparation and kitchen activities to ensure smooth operations.
Coordinate in preparing community meals and food-related programs.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen space and equipment.
Assist in sourcing and ordering food and kitchen supplies while staying within budget.
Ensure meals are prepared according to Food Safe standards and accommodate dietary restrictions as needed.
Perform other related duties as requested.
Experience and Attributes:
Education and/or experience in youth services, counseling recreation.
Food Safe certification is an asset.
Nutritional training or certification is an asset.
Minimum of 2 years working directly with youth.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain confidentiality.
Strong understanding and participation in Lil'wat Nation culture and traditions.
Strong emotional intelligence, and good skills in conflict resolution, communication, organization, attention to detail, and time management.
Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and time management skills.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Level One First Aid and CPR Training.
Conflict resolution and de-escalation training is an asset.
Previous experience with event planning or activity coordinator is considered an asset. Particularly with an emphasis on youth or First Nations.
Ability to work independently and as an integral member of various teams.
Motivated self-starter with strong interpersonal skills.
Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License, a clean Driver's Abstract, and a reliable vehicle.
Must be able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector.
