The Youth Care Leader (YCL) is responsible to provide on-line decision making and leadership in the provision of direct care, support and supervision of the residents. The YCL works with the Youth Care Workers to provide for the youths' emotional and physical needs through the provision of basic parenting duties, therapeutic interventions, and a safe, nurturing, environment. The YCL is directly responsible to the Program Manager.
Responsibilities:
1. To take a leadership role in the development of therapeutic activities for the residents and in the management of the resident behaviour through therapeutic interventions in accordance with agency philosophy and policies.
2. To provide on-line orientation, support, and guidance to Youth Care Workers in the day-to-day provision of care and supervision to residents.
3. To provide supervision to residents and implement daily therapeutic activity plans and daily routines.
4. To participate with the team and resident in the establishment and implementation of the individual service plans, support interventions, and individual crisis support plans.
5. To be responsible for budget money provided to meet the daily needs of the residents and to provide receipts for approved expenditures on a monthly basis.
6. To take residents for required medical, dental, optical, and other healthcare appointments as directed by the Program Manager and in accordance to the agency policy and procedures.
7. To dispense medications to residents according to a doctor's instructions and in accordance to the agency Policy on Use of Medications and Procedure for Administering Medications.
8. To facilitate resident contact with family and friends.
9. To provide positive role modelling to youth, to conduct themselves as a caring adult authority figure, and to make decisions in the best interest of the youth.
10. To ensure timely and accurate information on a daily basis concerning the needs and behaviours of residents and to follow the agency's policy on reporting and documenting critical information.
11. To contribute to the development of the agency's strategic plan; to participate in the program evaluation procedures and in setting goals and strategies for program improvements.
12. To operate according to the agency's Code of Ethics.
13. To learn and operate by the agency's philosophy, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications:
The Youth Care Leader will have a combination of education and experience related to working with youth and a minimum of one year experience in the provision of residential services to youth. The YCL will possess strong leadership and teamwork skills as well as personal attributes that facilitate the development of trusting and caring relationships with youth. Knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and beliefs is an asset. Child Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Record Check, and valid class 5 driver's license are required.
