Job description The Career Education Council is currently offering spots in our youth employment skills training program, Connect-ED Working Circles. This is a program designed to help youth develop entry-level skills and gain workplace experience related to careers in communications, administration & marketing. What is Connect-ED Working Circles?

  • An employment readiness training program for youth ages 15-30 who live in Guelph/Wellington/Dufferin and who are not currently employed or attending school.
  • A virtual program with attendance required virtually for 30-35 hours per week on Zoom and other platforms.
  • An opportunity to gain skills, career insights and networking connections in the areas of marketing, communications, administration and content creation.
  • An opportunity to develop new skills which may be applied to an employment placement through the program (upon successful completion of training and other restrictions).
  • 6 weeks of virtual training with a reimbursement of living expenses equivalent to minimum wages.
  • Successful trainees may "graduate" into an employment placement with an employer which could include: a community-benefit organization; a small-business; a larger company; a marketing business.

Please note that eligibility criteria exist and that youth will be contacted for an interview before being considered for the program. The Microsoft application must be completed prior to being offered an interview. Training Program: 6 weeks with living allowance paid at $15.50/hour, 30-35 hours per week, 6 weeks Employment Wage: Set by employers during the placements. Typically $17.00/hour, 35 hours, 10-12 weeks - some exceptions apply. Employment is not guaranteed, and will be based on typical factors such as skills, attendance, performance and workplace etiquette/fit. We have 8 intakes remaining for this program scheduled in June 2023. Spaces are limited.
Youth can only enroll in this program once: Training Start Dates:
June 19, 2023 Please note that applications to this program will include assessment of your intake form, combined with a short interview. Selection will be based on set criteria, including current education and employment status. Some employment placements may require physical attendance in Guelph/Wellington/Dufferin. Intake will be geared accordingly. To be eligible, youth must:
  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of their training program;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
*Youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period. **International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the funding for this program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student\xe2\x80\x99s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market. Youth hired for a Connect-ED funded job cannot displace or replace existing employees or volunteers, employees that have been laid-off and are awaiting recall, employees absent due to an industrial dispute, employees on vacation, or employees on maternity or parental leave.
