Yard Technician
to join our Team. The Maintenance & Yard Technician, under the direction of the Supervisor, Operations - Welland will be responsible for performing general maintenance of RAM's equipment, along with supporting daily operational activities, operating skid steers/forklifts.

OVERVIEW
The successful candidate is expected to have the ability to learn and assist in several aspects of our daily yard operations, directing customers, sorting, and separating Ferrous and Non-Ferrous materials, and support the maintenance of equipment, such as bins and property. The Yard Technician must be comfortable working outdoors in all types of weather conditions. The incumbent will be called upon to occasionally assist Non-Ferrous Metal Inspector and Auto Dismantler.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITES
Responsible for loading, offloading company, and customers' vehicles.
Use hand signal, and CB radio to communicate and direct traffic to ensure safe movement for personnel in the yard.
Sort scrap materials into specific grades once offloaded from trucks.
Use tablet or hand-held device to input material grades.
Ensure incoming material meets conformities.
Remove all non-confirming material.
Verify quality of ferrous and non-ferrous materials
Move material as appropriate throughout the yard, this can include stocking bundles and materials as appropriate.
Maintain clear roadways and ensure safe movement throughout the yard.
Ensure piles are safely piled to avoid material from falling or piling down.
Sort and segregate material as per mills and foundry specification.
Report all incidents, accidents and/or hazards.
Report deficiencies in systems, facilities, machinery, equipment and/or tools immediately to the General Manager.
Perform yard housekeeping tasks such as sweeping, maintaining clear roadways and yard cleanliness.
Provide exceptional customer service to peddlers and contractors.
Other duties as required, not limited to responsibilities listed above.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Minimum five (5) years of experience in general maintenance and repair.
Experience working in a scrap yard or in an outdoor environment is an asset.
Knowledge of metals is an asset.
Experience operating a forklift is an asset.
Knowledge of safety protocols and willingness to adhere to safety guidelines.
Ability to lift items weighing up to 50lbs.
Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate effectively in English.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The working environment is busy and fast paced, with regular and ongoing interactions with colleagues, management, and the public at large. There may be frequent interruptions, and from time to time be noisy. The employee must have knowledge of how to manage their own personal safety under these conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to be able to lift up to and including 50lbs, sit and/or stand for extended periods of time and reach with arms/hands. Walking, walking up / down stairs, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving items is occasionally required.
