Job Summary

The Yard Laborer / Forklift Driver is responsible for supporting daily operations in the steel manufacturing plant's yard, including the safe handling, loading, unloading, and movement of steel products and materials using forklifts and other equipment. This role ensures efficient yard operations while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Job Responsibilities

Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment to move raw materials, finished goods, and other items throughout the yard and facility. Stock the shop with all material they require. Assist with loading and unloading trucks and trailers with steel products. Inspect and secure loads to ensure safe transport and storage. Perform general yard labor tasks such as stacking, sorting, banding, and organizing steel inventory. Conduct routine inspections of forklifts and equipment to ensure safe operation. Follow safety protocols and report any hazards or equipment issues to supervisors. Assist in inventory counts and control processes. Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of safety hazards. Support other departments as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum 1-2 years of experience operating a forklift, preferably in an industrial or steel environment. Valid forklift certification (or ability to obtain upon hire). Experience handling heavy materials such as steel, metal, or industrial components is highly preferred. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Basic understanding of safety regulations and material handling procedures. Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment. Ability to work in an outdoor yard and fabrication environment with exposure to heat, cold, noise, and dust. Requires physical stamina and alertness in a fast-paced setting.
